Topic based anime and manga categories[edit]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering 11:27, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This was once touched upon at WT:ANIME about adopting a consistent naming scheme to all topic related categories in Category:Anime and manga by topic, which is currently all over the place. This renaming of categories follows the broader naming scheme of Category:Fiction by topic. This nomination does not touch on every category in Category:Anime and manga by topic—because some are genres—this does get most of them. —Farix (t | c) 00:10, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's currently a discussion at WT:MOSFILM#Category: Foo in film just now starting up considering renaming their own categories to a scheme such as Category: Films about foo or Category: Films featuring foo. The rationale there is that these two schemes are less ambiguous and more clear about how such categories are used (in that the work it appears on has this element as a significant or defining trait) and are less likely to be cat spammed or abused by being thrown onto pages with the argument "well, foo appears in the film". The discussion over there is in infancy, but it seems to be relevant for this bunch. Should we consider that the "about" or "featuring" scheme in lieu of "in" for the same reasons? ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 00:32, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would rather focus on the current renaming proposal. As you said, the other discussion is in its infancy and not to a point where this proposal should be suspended. Once a consensus on that discussion is clear, presuming there is any change to the film naming scheme, renaming these categories can be reconsidered as part of a broader renaming proposal. —Farix (t | c) 01:14, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair. Wasn't really thinking about that discussion suspending this one, just wondering if it was worth considering from the get-go. On that note, support rename as proposed in nom.

Nominator's rationale: Ambiguously defined category. What exactly defines an "adult animated television series"? I seriously doubt any of the articles included can be backed up by reliable sources. If it is meant to be for anime shown late at night, category should be renamed as such. —Farix (t | c) 21:24, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: "What exactly defines an "adult animated television series"?" See main article adult animation. Dimadick (talk) 06:32, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And how does one determine if a television series is targeted to adults, as studios rarely revel such information. If it is purely based on time slots, then wouldn't Category:Late night anime server better as it corresponds with the article Late night anime and would not involve interpretation of who the target audience is? As a side note, article in the category were never broadcast on Japanese television (ex FLCL, Devilman Crybaby, Golden Boy (manga)) and should not be included in the category. —Farix (t | c) 10:49, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Anime (such as FLCL) broadcast on Adult Swim are targeted at adults. Anime broadcast in Japan on late night television are also targeted at adults. Anime based on 青年漫画 (seinen manga) or 成人向け漫画 (seijin muke manga) are also targeted at adults. (Side note: Devilman Crybaby is on Netflix, and Golden Boy was on Russian MTV). It would be a violation of WP:No original research to classify any anime series as "adult animated television series" based purely on its time slot. Secondly, this category name has "Japanese television series", meaning that the series aired on Japanese television. If an anime did not air on Japanese television, they should not be in the category. —Farix (t | c) 20:17, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as subjective. We do not have Category:Adult television series either, for the same reason. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:19, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per speedy C2E but I don't see a template for it. Erroneous creation by me. Have now created the intended one - Category:Sports clubs in South Dublin (county). Should perhaps have just renamed the first one. But here we are. Laurel Lodged (talk) 18:02, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Nelson's 5th edition of Fishes of the World raises the suborder Trachinoidei to the order Trachniformes.Quetzal1964 (talk) 13:09, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
