This user explicitly states he's an insider with biased perspective at Articles_for_deletion/Aaron_Wall and his user page clearly shows his stake in services involving SEO.

He's made wiki doorway pages to multiple snippet articles which provides target for seeding commercial reference links that he may stand to gain from increased visits.
List of mini articles that circular reference each other
Most of pages within that category do not meet source quality standards per WP:sources and the web owner and its affiliate marketers may stand to gain financially from visitors
Category page dedicated to list of people of not interest to general public that seems to serve as a directory. List of not so notable people
Many of these people are not known outside of a specific niche industry and they're poorly referenced at best.
I think this akin is to creating a category for "Honor students of local high school"

Jitka J recently registered and immediately began spamming articles from "Internet Archaeology" in their External links sections. Can someone with the appropriate tools or time please revert these edits? --Hu12 (talk) 14:53, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Theses website, contrary to the claims of Hu12, isn't spam. It adds valuable information to the articles, which the articles couldn't contain as they would violate the WP:NOTSTATS policy. The website only contains results of snooker matches and various statistics derived from them, and don't contain any spam at all. Addendum I agree, that its a little unfortunate, that the owner of the website began to add these links, but that alone doesn't make the website spam. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 15:06, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Editors make the policies here at Wikipedia, Here are some that apply to your issue:
--Hu12 (talk) 15:08, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
  • A BBC program producer editing multiple biography articles to add links to interviews with their subjects hosted at the BBC website, is considered spam, although the BBC is public and their website is of high quality. Sole Soul (talk) 15:24, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
    • Correct. In this case, as in most cases - spam is defined not only by the content of the site.. as by the behavior of the individuals adding the links.. add these factors together - and the big picture shows someone who is using Wikipedia to promote their own interests. This is the essense of spamming.--Hu12 (talk) 15:29, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
      • Well this doesn't apply any more, as the sites owner declared not to add the links anymore. Sir Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 15:36, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
          • If you think that this site is really the best in its field, it is better to suggest mass addition at Wikipedia: WikiProject Snooker. If there is consensus, it could be added to tens or even hundreds of articles. Just re-adding what was removed is aimless and shows you how spamming, even a good site, is damaging to Wikipedia. Sole Soul (talk) 16:05, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
        • Additionaly, your part Which you were warned applies also. Understand 3RR is a limit, not an entitlement. It does not imply that reverting three times or fewer is acceptable. people can be blocked for edit warring or disruption even if they do not revert more than three times per day. Three revert is not to be construed as a defense against action taken to enforce the Disruptive editing policy. see
        • Please discuss with others next time and remember that Wikipedia is not a repository for links. I'll assume good faith here, and consider the matter closed. thanks--Hu12 (talk) 15:59, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
              • As the owner of the site I do wish to comment on what Hu12 said: "someone who is using Wikipedia to promote their own interests.". This is a factually incorrect assumption, and I have tried to make you aware of this before. I have absolutely nothing to gain from visitors coming to my website, as I do not make money from it, nor does it contain any banners or advertising. I understand and agree with your point on COI as I mentioned before, but I do feel rather insulted of being constantly accused of being a spammer and promoting my own interests by you. I respect your position, however you seem dead set on doing everything as written, and not taking into consideration either the content of the site, or the views presented by, among others, myself and Armbrust. As said I have nothing to gain, and simply wish to share information, which multiple people here know have declared the value of. I therefore consider your position in the matter unfortunate.

Regarding the suggestion of discussion this in the Wikipedia: WikiProject Snooker , how would I go about doing this? (Visionaire87 (talk) 14:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC))

  • Comment The CueTracker stats look pretty interesting, taking the John Higgins entryfor example, as a snooker fan I find this stuff interesting. As a Wikipedia editor I can understand the spam concerns, but I think this site includes sufficient extra content that readers of the article would be interested in this stuff This seems analogous to BoxOfficeMojo for instance, which is a box office tracking site for films and is added to virtually film article on Wikipedia, even featured articles. I agree that mass addition probably should have been discussed at the Snooker Project first, but I don't see any harm in adding this link to the article. At ASP.NET I just reverted these three edits which inserted 27 external links, many using the following convoluted code:

<span class="plainlinks">[LINK_HERE <span style="color:black;font-weight:normal; text-decoration:none!important; background:none!important; text-decoration:none;">DESCRIPTION_HERE</span>],

I have noticed this procedure before. Has there been a discussion about this spam approach? Johnuniq (talk) 10:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

I haven't seen it before, it appears to be an incompetent attempt to pass off the links as legitimate text. However, it still shows up in the linkwatcher database. Anyway, this is generic cross-wiki SEO spamming.  Defer to Global blacklist. MER-C 11:44, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Hangon, that's a legitimate publisher of academic journals. Why not just fix them, so that they get linked to the Medline journal data, the OCLC data, etc?LeadSongDog come howl! 15:59, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I agree with LeadSongDog. As can be seen on KeepM's talkpage, I have been less than happy with this editor's editing in the past, but not really because this was spammy. KeepM created articles on legitimate, notable journals. The text of the articles was only here and there promotional, and then only slightly. I edited several of KeepM's articles to make them neutral, but apparently these were deleted as "spam", too,n so now I also am a spammer? (As they have been deleted, I cannot see which ones I edited, the rest were on my to-do list). I think both the block and the mass deletion of these articles is unjustified. As for ThePeskyCommonor's remark above about he articles having a link to the T&F website: each one was a link to the journal's homepage. As far as I know, that is absolutely legitimate. The worst that could have been said here is that only primary sources were being used. --Crusio (talk) 20:58, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

As I just remarked at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Academic Journals, some of these articles seem to have included copyvio material from the journal publisher. So while I think that this mass deletion is a massive overreaction (while we're at it, why not delete all articles linking to IMDB as spam — that's about as good as the reasoning here for why these articles are spam), we should be careful of copyright issues if we want to undo these deletions. —David Eppstein (talk) 21:34, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Since KeepM has been blocked, why not restore and courtesy pageblank. They can be recreated from history (plus additional sources) as needed. Whoever recreates then takes responsibility for the avoidance of semiedible pork byproducts and copyvios. In the interim, just

Journal Name is an academic journal.

as placeholder text would suffice. LeadSongDog come howl! 21:45, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
I am sorry to say that I think the mass deletion should not be undone. It was done in good faith, but that is not the main reason. I have commented over at Wikiproject Academic Journals [25]. If there is a large number of copyright violations then I think the articles will have to be recreated one by one. Crusio may be able to glean a list of articles from his contributions pages that he edited for compliance to standards (although it is extra work). Further comments are at the link I provided. Thank you. ---- Steve Quinn (talk) 14:08, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, that's an interesting question. If the post was made by an agent of the publisher, it isn't a copyvio, they've released it under CC-BY-3.0. If it was not, then the COI argument disappears. Still, Pesky has accepted manual recreation from scratch, the project will eventually grind through that. LeadSongDog come howl! 15:51, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
