Petition to "ban" Wikipedia[edit]

(Cause you know, we're just three guys intentionally distorting every fact in history as part of a sinister plan to control the world...)

[3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10]

IP editor has been pushing http://wwwdotthepetitionsitedotcom/1/ban-wikipedia/ since the petitionsite domain is blocked. Made one good-faith edit (... cause we're stupid, right?), rest of edits are given above. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:16, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a "fixed" {{LinkSummary}} to see existing uses of the modified URL (XLinkBot or even an edit filter are probably the best methods to address this).
On a side note, I laughed when I read the reasons listed at the petition site. There's a lot wrong with Wikipedia; but instead of listing any of those legitimate issues, they instead make it appear that those who maintain Wikipedia have some sinister agenda to undermine civilization (viva-la-revolution!) and are being well-paid for their efforts (personally, I haven't seen a single cent, and am owed some serious back-pay if this is the case) - although who is the well-funded person/group/company that is supposed to be paying us isn't mentioned in the petition - oh well. --67.183.232.99 (talk) 14:57, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above user's only edits have been to add various works by Ian Fletcher to a number of articles. Fletcher is a reputable historian and the reference works are fine in themselves, but this singular focus suggests possibly a marketing effort to my nasty suspicious mind. I'm not sure how to approach this so any advice would be welcome. EyeSerenetalk 09:18, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've been through the contribs and removed most of them (additions to ref lists that weren't used in the article and newly created Further reading sections), and left the editor a note. EyeSerenetalk 09:53, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above account seems to have been created for the purpose of adding External links to articles regarding library materials at Yale University. These links are merely to indexes (you can't access these collections online), and there is no description of the collections referenced or whether they are significant collections. For example, Yale's materials on Gilbert and Sullivan are not unique or nearly as significant as numerous other collections. I believe that all or nearly all of these links should be treated as spam and deleted. Can someone please check this out, and if you agree then roll them back? Thanks. Please leave me a message on my talk page if you need me to come back here. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:46, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gasammo link spam on .380 ACP and .45 ACP[edit]

Multiple IP's are putting linkspam to gasammo.com - recently on the .380 ACP and .45 ACP articles, but other places also in the past. This is a sales only site and the link is usually posted as "Home page your source for the best handgun ammo in the world".

Given the nature of the site, I think we should just put a total block on it since no one could ever use it as a reliable source. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 19:55, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

epodunk.com[edit]

Not sure about this one, seeking further input. I haven't reverted any of these yet. One one hand we see a lot of map site spamming here, and at first glance that's what it appears to be here at first glance. On the other hand, the user is updating the statistics, and ePodunk seems to be a reasonable source, though the article seems to imply that it gets it's data from the US Census; if that's the case, why not use the census.gov links instead? Thoughts on this? OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:11, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
