Comment requested regarding Moody's

Over the past several months I have developed well-researched replacement material for Wikipedia's current treatment of Moody's Corporation, Moody's Investors Service and Moody's Analytics. Currently there are two pages: Moody's and Moody's Analytics, but both are under-written, poorly organized and generally neglected. It is important to note that I am working with Moody's on this project, so I wish to be very careful in obtaining community consensus and following Wikipedia's COI guidelines. In recent weeks I have begun seeking feedback from editors, primarily on the Moody's Talk page, regarding three separate drafts for what I intend to be high-quality, non-promotional and well-rounded articles on these subjects. I would like to invite anyone who is interested to review this material and weigh in on the Moody's discussion page, and/or on the Moody's Analytics discussion as well. I've posted a comment on the Talk page for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_Capital_LLP about a factual error at the top of the page, but not edited the page directly myself (because of COI reasons). Samsung Electronics vs. Samsung Group

Hey I am new to the discussions although I have always been helpful in donating time and money to Wikipedia. Whenever I notice something small like a typing error, I kindly edit it.

Although now I encountered something that is too big to just edit. Hence, I would like to discuss it and see what can be done.

In the list of world's largest companies by total revenues, Samsung Electronics is mentioned, but the parent company Samsung Group is omitted. Shouldn't the two be switched for good measurement as it is the parent companies that count, instead of the individual subsidiaries? If so, Samsung Group would be in the top 10 largest companies in the world by total revenues.

What do you guys think?

The Glover Park Group

To anyone watching this page: The Glover Park Group is a political communications firm based in DC that does not currently have an article, although the company easily passes WP:CORP. Working on their behalf, I have written an article following Wikipedia guidelines, especially some relevant to this WikiProject, as I have explained in more detail on the Paid Editor Help page of WikiProject Cooperation. I would like to encourage editors who are part of this project to add their comments on this proposed new article.

Fortune 100

I noticed we don't have categories for Fortune 100 companies. I haven't checked on other indexes, but several are very popular. I would think such categories would be very useful. Is there a reason why we don't have this, or can I get cracking on it? I'm surveying Fortune 100 companies here anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem for me to add the category to all of them by the end of the week. Thoughts? Rklawton (talk) 16:45, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I would love to have tags for f100 or f500 or even the global 1000; not sure why they're not here now. I seem to recall some drama over copyrighted lists with the forbes richest lists (for individuals), but those are driven off of intellectual effort (it's not so simple to determine someone's net worth), instead of a simple measure such as gross revenue. Crain Communications History Section Edit

Hi, I’d like to propose to edit the current Crain Communications history section. The current history contains incorrect statements and lacks reliable sources, and the draft I have proposed in my sandbox User:ChauTime/CrainSandbox addresses both these issues. I have posted my suggestions on the Talk:Crain Communications page and had an initial response from another poster, but have not heard back from this person in several days, so the edits have not yet been made. Can someone please take a look at my suggested history update and post the changes if you feel they improve the overall section of the article? I am a current employee of Crain Communications and would prefer to refrain from posting edits myself due to my conflict of interest (also noted on my user page). Halo Burger

I am in an arguement with another editor on the Halo Burger article conducted on my talk page and the article's talk page. He wants to only claim that the company was found in 1923 do to the company logo and even sources the company's website. He shows me other source including one written by him, that supposedly indicate that it was found then, to which I point out that those are indirect quotes from the now former owner or indicate an "evolved" instead of one date foundation, since Halo Burger is a spin off business. Crain Communication New Section

Hi - I am proposing to add a "Publications" section to the Crain Communications page. The article currently lacks information on any of Crain's 30 publications. I think adding this section will improve the article as a whole, and will provide useful information to readers. I have mentioned on the Crain Communications talk page, as well as my user page, that I am a current employee of Crain Communications' Autoweek. Template:Infobox Company

Some consistency would help users to locate industries by type and for editors to create better indexes. The guidance on the toolbox clearly suggests that primary industry/marketplace be used and gives an example. There are a variety of classification systems that can be used though that would help editors (see Industry_classification) but the one used by the dowjones, the ftse and nasdaq etc is the Industry Classification Benchmark Given that most of the worlds largest companies are on one of these indexes it would make sense to use this system.

I have posted the proposal along with some alternatives in Template_talk:Infobox_company#industry so some comments or suggestions there would be appreciated. I don't want to simply edit the guidance and dictate something without a consensus. Scottonsocks (talk) 16:30, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Indeed a valid worry point. So it's best if there are multiple editors working/reviewing on the stubs to reach a consensus on Create/Re-List/Decline. Also we can suggest a basic 3 sentence format for company stubs:
  1. What does the company do?
  2. When was the company established?
  3. Where is the company located? (or where is the main HQ?)

A new section on operations for BP article

A short introduction, since I have not been to this page before: I'm an employee of BP, looking to improve the BP article in line with Wikipedia's guidelines and goals. I've come here to ask if editors on this WikiProject would be interested to review a draft section that I've written.

In discussions on the BP Talk page and other forums, editors mentioned that the Operations section is lacking full details of the company's present scope of operations. As I've explained on the article's Talk page, to start helping to improve the section, I would like to offer for review a new subsection providing an overview of all of BP's operations.

Wikiproject Companies Template

The front page of the Wikiproject has a warning about COI that encourages COIs to read WP:BFAQ. I was wondering if some kind of similar (but shorter) warning should be added to Template:WikiProject Companies, so that any company that views the Talk page of their article can see a prominent link to information on how they should or shouldn't behave.

Something like "Editors with a financial conflict of interest with the company are encouraged to suggest improvements on the Talk page using request edits following these instructions." Proposed revision of PSB article

I realize that this WikiProject is not terribly active, however I'm proposing a rewrite for an article that is currently listed as being under the purview of it and (presently) no others: Penn, Schoen & Berland. I've written a new draft on behalf of the company, intending to replace the inaccurate, spotty, thinly-sourced current version with a more comprehensive, higher quality, well-verified replacement. Kool Smiles and NCDR LLC

Hi! From the reliable sources I'm having difficulty in determining whether Kool Smiles and NCDR LLC (currently that redirects to Kool Smiles) are the same company, or if they are separate. There seem to be some serious source conflicts WhisperToMe (talk) 20:49, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

  • "NCDR's principal client is Kool Smiles"[1]
  • "NCDR LLC, which manages 130 Kool Smiles clinics" [2]
  • "NCDR’s principal client is Kool Smiles"[3]
  • "NCDR LLC, doing business as Kool Smiles,"[4]
  • "Kool Smiles has a company called NCDR LLC that hires the dentists, finds new locations, owns the offices and equipment and manages the employees."[5]
That is very confusing.
It does seem like something that might be best investigated directly from the company[6]

The private-equity firm invests in Kool Smiles’ management partner, NCDR, LLC. NCDR in turn partners with Kool Smiles to provide management and business support services such as HR, facility maintenance, IT and customer service support.

It sounds almost like a franchise, where Kool Smiles is a brand name, but NCDR sets up everything for dentists wanting to start their own practice under Kool Smiles brand. Corporate 12:46, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I'm currently trying to revise the @radical.media page to better conform to Wikipedia standards. I would like to completely resolve the neutrality, reference, and cleanup issues associated with the page and would welcome any suggestions on how to improve the article. Thank you!

I provided some bulleted feedback on the article Talk page. Almost everything in the current article is promotional and can be condensed into a few paragraphs. Meanwhile, the information that is most important to us as an encyclopedia - like History - is missing. I've given you some thoughts on how the article should be structured, with only a couple paragraphs dedicated to the companies services, a couple to awards and a couple to notable works. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and TNEB Limited

There is an ongoing dispute if the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and TNEB Limited should be one or two articles. The proponent of separate articles says that they are different entities and therefore should have have different articles. Proponents of merged article say that even if they may be legally different entities, TNEB Limited is a successor of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board which took over Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employees and obligations and restructuring of the company alone is not a reason to create a separate article if the article duplicates information already provided in another article. The TNEB Limited provides mainly information about the restructuring of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. Therefore, these articles were merged on 22 May 2012. Afterward, there merger was undone several times by now blocked user and his/her sockpuppets. The latest re-creation of TNEB Limited was done by new user on 24 November. The merged version is here and restored article is TNEB Limited. This is little bit messy as there has been recently a number of copy-paste moves but hopefully the situation is understandable. Revisions to Mindjet article

In recent weeks, I've been work on behalf of the company Mindjet to update their article. The article itself is relatively new, dating from earlier this year, and so the changes are fairly minor, despite a few big changes at the company. Deutsche Telekom vs. Telecom France - which one is "largest in Europe"?

Deutsche Telekom (DTAG) is stated to be the second largest Tc company in Europe, following France Télécom (FT). However, in german WP, DTAG is stated largest Tc company in Europe, FT only "largest in France".

Numbers for 2011:

  • France Télécom: Revenue: €45.27 billion, Operating income: €7.948 billion, Profit: €3.895 billion, Total assets: €96.08 billion
  • Deutsche Telekom: Revenue: €58.65 billion, Operating income: €5.586 billion, Profit: €557 million, Total assets: €122.54 billion

Which of these numbers are relevant for filing the company as "largest in Europe"? --Jesus Presley (talk) 02:40, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Neither. The trouble is that you could also claim Vodafone is bigger than France Telecom because its revenue is £46bn (€57bn). Such peacock claims are meaningless, they poison the encyclopaedia and are best removed. --Biker Biker (talk) 08:09, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
"Largest" is always problematic; business entities often compare revenues, asserts, market cap, customers served, etc, but the term largest is meaningless with a qualifier. As Mr. Biker notes, even with qualifiers, it usually comes off as non-notable puffery. Kuru (talk) 14:19, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I added "according to annual revenue" to the (updated) claims. Have both pages on my watchlist and I consider to rephrase them. Suggestion - Infobox Acquisitions and Mergers

Has it been suggested that an infobox be created which would organize information about the acquisitions and mergers of a current company? I think this would be useful in both the context of specific articles (for instance, the acquisition of Alcatel by Lucent is relegated to the last paragraph of History and is tough to see as a highlight of the company's history) and as an addition to data available via Dbpedia. Company name inclusion for Backend as a service article

Last October, I worked with Kinvey, a backend-as-a-service (BaaS) provider, to update the Backend as a service article. The article previously existed, but was quite poor. My changes were vetted by volunteer editors, and moved into the mainspace.

Following this, anonymous editors added two relatively minor BaaS providers to the list of providers in the article. This generated a bit of discussion on Talk:Backend as a service about how best to handle the inclusion of specific providers by name, although no consensus was reached. In the latest iteration of the page, one of these volunteer editors decided the simplest thing would be to remove all mention of BaaS providers from the article.

While I understand that Wikipedia articles like this can be attractive for self-promotional editors, and I acknowledge that my own relationship with Kinvey muddies the water a bit, I do think that a useful encyclopedia article should name the major providers, so long as they are verified by reliable, third-party sources. The Cloud computing article does this, for example. On the BaaS Talk page I suggested articles by three tech industry observers, along with proposed text accurately describing the market of BaaS providers.

Wikipedia's guidelines about including sources seems to me to be all we need here—unsourced claims should be removed, sourced claims should be allowed to stay.

Thank you for bringing this here. In my opinion, a list of providers would be quite appropriate along the lines you've noted ... sourced and verified. There are many many lists here that have very poor sourcing. If we can help to encourage list-item sourcing through individual entry sourcing, all the better. Also, once individual entry sourcing is established, this provides a ready metric for refusing inclusion of unsourced list content. The problem, though, becomes one of verifiability versus self-verification. Many people accept self-published material for 'fact' support; it would be easy for people to say "why can't we have self-published material sourcing inclusion in a list" as this is a simple 'fact'. I don't think this problem has been adequately resolved. Thus, in principle I support the inclusion of a sourced list, in practice, the quality of the sources emerging from self-promotional parties would be both within the scope of acceptance and difficult to counter. We do sentiment analysis of pages related to a set of major companies to determine positive and negative contributions. The present output lists sentences from "diffs" with sentiment, users contributing the most sentiment (either negative or positive), the sequential collaboration network color-coded according to sentiment, and a temporal graph showing the evolution of sentiment. For some of the companies I aggregate the subpages associated with the companies, e.g., product pages or "history of...". I am continuously collecting data, however, the analyssi is not yet set up to update automatically.

neutrality of McGraw-Hill article

Hi! I am new to Wikipedia, so please bear with me. I'm having a hard time finding this statement in the McGraw-Hill article to be free of bias: "No Child Left Behind was highly profitable for McGraw-Hill and a delusion held by political enemies of President Bush is that federal education policy was influenced by the familiar relationship.[20]" The source that is linked to in this case is a blog entry that includes an opinion piece that was published in a newspaper that argues that federal education policy was indeed influenced by the relationship between the Bush family and McGraw-Hill. Interac (Japan)

Regarding Interac_(Japan) KeroroGunso (talk · contribs) & Laevatienn (talk · contribs) have made arguments on the talk page about the nature of the article, as it is mostly made up of union-related-labor-dispute content that echos the types found on Tozen, General_Union and Unfair_Labor_Practice_(Japan). The result here is a lack of depth or breadth in dealing with Interac as a company, which lowers its quality score in WP:Japan and WP:EDUCATION. Looking at the edit history seems to be a lot of work by Ckatz (talk · contribs), Statisticalregression (talk · contribs),Nihonjoe (talk · contribs) and others. KeroroGunso, Laevatienn, and myself recognize the NPOV issues in the article as it is made up of union-related-labor-dispute content. Discussion about this has been made on the Talk page, but no response has come from anyone with a different opinion. Attempts to remove this reverted time after time, and I believe that it would be more appropriate for a reference to be made to the union-related-labor-dispute content and have that content on the pages of the relevant parties or topics, such as Tozen, General_Union and Unfair_Labor_Practice_(Japan). What is needed from an editor here is for someone to have an unbiased look at what is related to the company as an organization, and what is related to the union-related-labor-dispute(S). Refco and its former boss

An amiable inquiry on my user talk page led me to the article on one Phillip R. Bennett, previously the head of a company called Refco. The article on Bennett (a living person) alleged that he pled guilty to various charges, and was imprisoned for these, after the date of the sole reference provided for the whole article. And that was how the article had remained for years. Thinking of "BLP" policy, I zapped this material.

But the material that I zapped: is it verifiable? Even the quickest glance in a search engine reveals that yes it is. So deleting it was rather myopic. (Or, less charitably, stupid.) After all, the deleted material just needed to be sourced, and perhaps amended and updated in places. Why didn't I do that? Because I know squat about this kind of subject: bookkeeping (-losing), low finance, corporate law. I imagine that you people here do know something about this kind of subject, and I therefore invite you to help rebuild the article on Bennett. -- Hoary (talk) 00:17, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Which office is the primary headquarters of Claire's?

Hi! Regarding Claire's secondary newspaper sources seem to dispute which office (Florida or Illinois) are the headquarters for Claire's. Some sources (mainly those from Florida) say it is "based" in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Others (mainly those from Illinois) say it is "based" in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

As for the company itself:

  • Contact Us IR Page lists, after "headquarters" its "Florida Office" and then its "Illinois Office"
  • FAQ says investor relations and customer service are based out of Florida while buying, marketing and distribution offices are in Hoffman Estates
  • According to this Chicago Tribune article, since 1973, and as of 1997, then-CEO Schaeffer had his offices in Florida but commuted to Illinois which was the "company's main facility and distribution center"
  • In 1998 this Daily Herald article said "Pembroke Pines, Fla.-based Claire's owns several retail chains that sell accessories and clothes for teenagers. Claire's has Hoffman Estates operations."
  • But a Wikipedian pointed said that today, if one searches for the top officials listed here on LinkedIn they are based in the Chicago area.

When I searched EDGAR I got a listing here https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?company=Claire%27s&owner=exclude&action=getcompany which identifies "Claire's Boutiques, Inc." "Claire's Canada Corp." and "Claire's Puerto Rico Corp." as being based in Florida and "Claire's Inc. SIC: 5600 - RETAIL-APPAREL & ACCESSORY STORES" as being based in Illinois.

After going through some SEC filings, in Talk:Claire's I documented that originally "Claire's Stores, Inc." listed Pembroke Pines as its "principal executive offices" until at least 2008. It became a subsidiary to "Claire's, Inc." and, while I haven't yet located old SEC filings of "Claire's, Inc." - 2013 filings of "Claire's, Inc." and "Claire's Stores, Inc." list Hoffman Estates as the "principal executive offices". Adding an infobox to Education Management Corporation

Hello, anyone watching this page. I'm looking for help adding the {{infobox company}} template to the Education Management Corporation article. At present, it lacks any sort of infobox, so I have prepared one and placed it on the Talk page for other editors to review. Hi! I am hoping someone can help me update information on the Quill.com page. While I do work for the company so I understand the conflict of interest, but I do hope there is information we can update.

Writing an article on an international company called Koobo LLC.

Hello everyone! I'm currently a temporary intern in Xiamen China at a company called Kooboo. I'm trying to develop a Wikipedia page on them. Nothing too special other than the basics. I just started working on this article only two days ago and am very, slowly getting used to some of the complicated rules and procedures that go with editing Wikipedia. I would like the page to look somewhat professional but nothing fancy. The company is very popular and has been used in large companies like T-Mobile, Grolsh, e.on, WNL, and UPC. The problem I'm having is not being able to find references. Kooboo makes a product called KoobooCMS and basically its used in the creation of user friendly websites and applications. So when I want to prove that T-Mobile used this program to create their website, it is almost impossible. How can I reference something like this! Here is a link to the website. New Tea Company named The Tea Company needs a page on Wikipedia

Dear editors,

I am the founder of The Tea Company Inc. I wanted to create a page for my company but I'm afraid it will be considered a conflict of interest if I create the article myself. I've seen so many company articles, some Fortune 500 and some very small ones, I thought mine could also have its place, provided it was done properly.

I am aware of the informational character of Wikipedia and I'm not trying to directly promote my products here as it's not the place. Simply, I would like to have my company described in Wikipedia in a neutral, informative fashion.

I would see in the article the historical data, the types of teas it offers with a link to each tea category (green tea, black tea, oolong, pu-erh, etc), links to the history of tea, health benefits of tea, and so on. And I'm not going to lie, I would also LOVE having an external link to my website.

I'm looking for one or several authors to help with this project.

At a quick glace, it's fairly hard to find any reliable sources that could be used to create an article about your business. There are several other companies that share that name which do not appear to be yours, which could be complicating things. VT Group

The VT Group article concerns a British company which was taken over by Babcock International Group in 2010. An IP and now a new user has been making apparently well-intentioned though possibly conflicted edits to the article regarding an American company of the same name. From their identical logos there would appear to be some connection betweent the two companies (the American arm of the previous entity continuing under the same name in that country?) but this is left muddled by the new users edits: the history of the historical company rightly left intact but with a lede which explains a different company now exists with that name and the infobox filled with details of the new co. rather than the one the article is about. There is no explanation as to how the companies are or were connected or if the same name and logo is a coincidence (unlikely). It made for a confusing read so I reverted. This looks like a legitimate change. An apparent connection between the 2 companies is described at http://www.marketwatch.com/story/babcock-intl-to-sell-vt-services-to-vt-holdings-2012-05-14 The same editor made another, less muddled, attempt, but the text added reads like a press release. Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

Help on article about Accenture

Hello, I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me make some edits to the Accenture article. I'm currently working on behalf of the company to make some improvements to their Wikipedia page. Because of that financial COI, I won't make any edits myself, so I'm looking for volunteer editors to review my suggestions (posted over at Talk:Accenture) and, if they seem appropriate, implement them.

There are a few pieces of information on the page that are out-of-date or incorrect. Some of the suggestions I'm making I previously discussed with volunteer Wikipedia editors, and the information was updated, but since then, the information has been changed and is now inaccurate again. Seeking help for an update to Verizon Communications

Hello, I'm looking for a volunteer editor who might be able to help me with some edits to the Verizon Communications article. I am an employee of Verizon, and so don't make any direct edits myself. However, I've drafted a new "History" section for the article, which I feel does a better job of addressing the companies history in encyclopedic terms. You can find my draft "History" section in my userspace.

I've posted a note over at Talk:Verizon Communications, but as of yet, it doesn't look like an editor has had a chance to take a look at my draft. If anyone here has a chance to look and take my draft live, that would be great. Ethan Allen (furniture company) page needs an update

Hi, I work for Ethan Allen so I can't edit the company's page so I'm looking for a volunteer editor to correct some information. Currently, the financial information is from 2010 and the most recent reference used in the body of the article is from 2009. I can provide specific corrections if you'd like, but if you'd just like reference materials, that's fine, too. Is the company's annual report considered a verifiable source of basic factual information, such as number and location of facilities, annual revenue, etc.? In an ideal world information like you mention would come from secondary sources, but for non-controversial statements of fact, primary sources are better than nothing. An editor asked me to look at a proposed article that was written by a company. After the editor posted the article, I added additional information from Reuters sources but the editor removed it saying it was inaccurate.

Looking for community support on a new grant proposal

Help with ownership of Companies in info boxes

I edited infoboxes of companies Capital Group Companies owns a percentage in. Then User Owen× ☎ undid all the edits I've made regarding companies that Capital Group Companies has small to majority of ownership in. The user, stated that my edits are disruptive and, there is no point of putting information like that in the articles. Example; for Amcor, in the infobox, I've added that Capital Group Companies has a 9.42% ownership of Amcor. And OwenX undid it, some of my edits he stated as nonsense. Is the user right? Because I edited company infoboxes of other articles regarding what that company has ownership in or who's the "owner" or "parent" of that company, and no other users had a problem with me doing that. You might not get OwenX to agree to what you are saying, no matter how much backing or assistance you have. That's simply human nature. Consider adding the information ... properly sourced and contextually pertinent ... to another part of the article than the infobox. If the reasoning for putting in the infobox is that it then will appear in DBpedia, consider creating an infobox dedicated to ownership reporting where minority ownership would have a home and be available to the linked data community. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 14:31, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

User "UserNameUnderConstruction" editing the AdvisorShares page needs to blocked

For the Advisorshares article, this user keeps writing advertorial content and seem to be related to the company. This user seems to be the same person as a previous user who was blocked because the had the user name "AdvisorShares". Before that they didn't use a user name and the ip address traced back to the town in Maryland where AdvisorShares is located. It seems more than likely that this person works for the company, is trying to make their page into a biased free advertisement and is not disclosing this, in violation of Wikipedia's rules and procedures. I trawled through the sources.
  • Some sources don't actually name Carestream; so they may well support specific content in the article but they're not evidence that Carestream is notable.
  • This page looks like substantial independent coverage of Carestream from a relatively solid source (well, it's more solid than most corporate profiles).
  • This is just a press release.
  • This is hard to gauge; "DPGA insights" sounds impressively solid and independent, but it's just a blog platform, and the content is obviously PR copy written by somebody at Carestream.

Citing Form 10-K and company annual report

I've been thinking for a while now that a "cite 10-K" template might be useful. However, such reports are sourced from a variety of locations, so providing an EDGAR link, for instance, would not be consistent with current consensus among people who cite 10-K forms. I found a page published by Butler University, though, which relates APA 6th edition citation styles for the form 10-k and the more generic company annual report; see http://libguides.butler.edu/content.php?pid=161391&sid=2042819 for this information. From the examples, one can create a derivative of citation which contains a focused set of parameters and values for some parameters.

Suspicious editors on the Fund.com page

First of all I looked up one the ip addresses (71.178.252.123) on the Fund.com page and the network name was Arrow Funds, one of the companies mentioned in the article. Also, I strongly believe that "Usernameunderconstruction" from the Advisorshares page is the same person as "ETFinvestor" from the fund.com page. It seems like the employees and/or owners of these two companies are having a Wikipedia war. Can anyone with high level permission check if Usernameunderconstruction and ETFinvestor come from the same IP address, making them sock puppets.Donthaveacowman76 (talk) 20:17, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Request for assistance

There is a discussions at Talk:Jehovah's Witnesses#Founder regarding whether Russell, the founder of the groups which later incorporated and changed names to the JW name, can reasonably be called the founder of the JWs as well, and, I suppose, if he can, whether there should be some sort of additional text to the effect of his being the founder of the group which later became the JWs. I have a feeling the people here might be among the better editors to respond to this issue of name change and subsequent formal founding of a legal business. I think List of assets owned by Berkshire Hathaway requires a higher importance level

As noted on its talk page many months (and indeed years) ago now, this article, which lists the assets of the fifth largest company in the world, is not put together very well. Although I did some minor cleanup on it, I do not have the economic background or knowledge to vigorously improve the article. The article should be regarded as being of high importance due to the scale of the company's notability. See the talk page for the issues apparently at hand. Westfield Group and Scentre Group

Hi all,

There's currently a pending issue with in regards to the Westfield Group article.

Here's a bit of background: in 2014 the shopping centre group Westfield split it's operations [8] - into two separate companies: Westfield Corporation and Scentre Group.

  • Westfield Corp. operates Westfield centres in the United States and United Kingdom.
  • Scentre Group operates Westfield centres in Australia and New Zealand.

The issue is: what happens to the Westfield Group article?

Shopping centres in Australia, as in New Zealand, are still under the brand of "Westfield", although they are operated by Scentre. Additionally, Westfield Group has it's history. Westfield is still existent.

My suggestion:

  • → Article: Westfield Group (or) Westfield (Retail): Shopping centres under the label of "Westfield" (as well as the history of the original company etc. And the mentioning of the new companies.)
    • → Section: Westfield Corporation: Handling Westfield centres in the US/UK; additionally a separate article can be created
    • → Section: Scentre Group: Handling Westfield centres in Aus/NZ; additionally a separate article can be created

Help with a new section for Verizon article?

Hello, I'm looking for an editor who might be able to help with looking at a new draft I'm suggesting for the Verizon Communications article. As I have explained here before, I am an employee of Verizon, and so don't make any direct edits myself. However, from time to time I have offered drafts to update the Verizon article and other related articles. Currently, I am suggesting a new section for discussing Verizon's "Corporate responsibility". You can find the draft in my userspace.

I have left a request on Talk:Verizon Communications, but there hasn't been any reply yet. If anyone here has the time to look and take my draft live, that would be great. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Hill+Knowlton

Hi there, I'm looking for editors who might be interested to help improve the article for PR company, Hill+Knowlton, which falls under this WikiProject. Currently, the article's content suffers from POV issues, as it is focused almost entirely on a handful of more controversial clients and work, while there is little to no information about the company's history and overall operations. Although H+K is one of the largest and longest-established PR companies in the United States, the article's History is just five sentences long, and the only other section in the article, the Controversies section, dominates its content. Meanwhile, the actual name of the company is inconsistent throughout the article, and its current name "Hill+Knowlton Strategies" is not used at all in the main body of the article.

On the Talk page, I've proposed a new draft for the article that relies on secondary sources and aims to add more information about how the company operates, and how it has developed over time. I should note: I am working as a consultant to H+K and prepared the draft with the company's input, so I'm not going to make any edits to the article myself. Instead, I'm hoping to find editors who would be interested to review the draft and move the content into the live article if they feel it is appropriate. I'm not advertising, but can't help but find your comment irrelevant and unfair. The company receives funding from creditors, yes, but over 20 percent of revenue comes from government funding, and over 16 percent from philanthropic support (see annual report). The notability of the company is also well established, given the numerous publications that have featured ClearPoint's data, used ClearPoint's clients in research studies (Kaiser and Ohio State University), and included ClearPoint's commentary on timely consumer issues. @TeeBright: Requested articles is the right place to request someone create an article, but it contains a very large number of articles and only a few that someone picks up. Realistically you'd have to create a neutral article with proper secondary sources yourself and submit it to Articles for Creation. However, most COI-submitted articles there are also rejected, because they tend not to be neutral or not meet the requirements for an article. If you are not an experienced Wikipedian familiar with all our rules and norms, what I would suggest is just submitting a three-sentence stub to articles for creation, with a filled-out infobox and the best possible, in-depth sources to verify its notability. I am currently in litigation against credit bureau Equifax, last sued Trans Union in about 2009, Experian 2006 and Fair Isaac (FICO) in 2003. @ChristineBaker1: The technical definition of COI depends on your motives, rather than your circumstance, but I would think that is very much so a position that would at the least create an appearance of a COI. Personally, I would love to see you improve the pages anyway, but given that your identity is disclosed, it might expose you to legal risk from the orgs involved. Probably what I would do in your shoes is ask an admin about using an alternate account to protect your identity for this particular circumstance and asking someone to take a look at your contributions before making them. Someone else may reasonably offer very different advice though. CorporateM (Talk) 15:39, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
@ChristineBaker1 and CorporateM: I've a somewhat different view from that expressed by CorporateM. I would suggest that you not pursue editing as you have suggested. As CorporateM says, it could have the appearance of COI, but it is also just another thing you are doing which has a touch point with a struggle you are in. There is such a vast array of things which can and should be done here, that I think your stepping away from these particular articles would be prudent. As for editing under a different account ... If you do want to remain engaged in the articles, I would suggest that you instead post suggestions for edits on the talk page; this indicates your recognition of the potential for COI and allows uninvolved editors to take the suggestions and implement them. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:13, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Suggested amendments to Andrex page

Hi, my name is Eoin Sandford. I work for MHP Communications in London as a Senior Account Executive. Andrex are a client of MHP. I have been asked if it would be possible to make a few amendments to the page by Andrex. Each suggested amendment has a link attached to back up the request. I have contacted this page as it is regarded in the talk section as an article of interest to this Wikiproject page. If there are any questions at all i am more than happy to answer. Before the first paragraph in History could the following sentence please be added "Andrex was originally developed as a gentleman’s disposable handkerchief, which were sold exclusively in Harrods department store, London. Prior to this softer tissue, consumers used harsher products referred to as ‘shinies’, which were sold mainly through chemists – the most famous brands being Bronco and Izal". In the third paragraph in history would it be possible to add the following information about the first advert in 1972. Please see the suggested amended text here: "The first Andrex Puppy advert was aired in 1972. The original concept was blocked by television regulators as it was thought that the image of a little girl running through her house trailing a roll of Andrex would encourage wastefulness. So, the little girl was replaced by a playful Labrador puppy that still stars in Andrex adverts today". Please see link to reference this suggested amedment [3]

In the third paragraph after the first sentence would it be possible to add the following sentence "Andrex was issued a Royal Warrant in 1978 for supplying Buckingham Palace with toilet tissue". Please see link to reference this sentence: [4]

Would it be possible to add the following sentence as the last sentence in the history section "In 2014, Andrex replaced its advertising slogan Soft, strong and very very Long, with How Andrex do you feel?". Thanks for getting back to me. I have made edits as per your request to the first two suggestions. I have also found new references for the royal warrant and verifying Andrex as the first to ::introduce moist toilet tissue.
Here is the amended piece for before the first paragraph. "Andrex was originally developed as a disposable handkerchief. Harrods department store in London sold the handkerchiefs ::exclusively. Before Andrex brands such as Bronco and Izal produced products that were harsher. They were mainly sold through chemists and known as “shinies”.
Here is the suggested amend for the third paragraph in history. "One of the most popular ads in the UK almost did not happen. The original idea by Andrex in 1972 was for a girl to run ::through a house trailing a roll of Andrex. Quest celebrates some more

The company Quest Diagnostics seems to be written by the company's PR staff. This is the MetPath survivor which has become so dominant by acquiring all potential competitors. Can someone with a better grasp of history make this fairy tale a little more believable? GE Capital Aviation Services

This article currently documents when large outlays of capital are used to purchase new capital assets (airliners), but when I tried to document a large monetary loss due to the write-off of such a capital asset (an airliner), it's been reverted. Lists of past employees

I notice our Cravath, Swaine & Moore article is dominated by a detailed list of 80+ Notable current and former employees. I don't recall seeing such lists in other company articles, even those about prominent law firms in the UK, but I notice that a couple of other firms in Category:Law firms based in New York City do have "Notable alumni" lists, though they're a lot shorter (Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, Sullivan & Cromwell). Is there a point at which such lists become simply promotional? Come to that, is their very existence rather promotional? NebY (talk) 20:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

@NebY: I don't think there is something inherently wrong with this, as long as the lists are sourced and the inclusion criteria are clear. If the list becomes too large a part of the article, it can be split to a separate article. I can see your argument about promotion as in "Seeee how many important people have worked with us ... shouldn't you too?", but that is an interpretation and it need not be assumed to be the intent of the inclusion. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 22:21, 8 April 2015 (UTC) .... a second thought on this is that inclusion of a list of notable alumni of a company is a lazy way of writing the article. If the people substantively contributed to the company, then should their contributions be included in the narrative instead? Yes, I should have said the effect seemed promotional, not the intent; without checking, I suspect the list has grown partly in a spirit of thoroughness. I began the page for United Western Minerals Company today. It is the mother of all stubs. The company only existed in the 1950s (I think). It's linked by three pages, one of which is my current project, Norman Dike. Listing charting books under publisher

Question for the community, is it considered promotional to list individual charting books under an article about the publisher? Example: Morgan James Publishing#Publishing. It seems that well-written articles with a substantial history from many editors like John Wiley & Sons and Random House do not do this, nor does the short article on niche publisher Berkley Books. — Brianhe (talk) 19:16, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

@Brianhe: In this case, books are their products, so I would look at WP:ORGLISTS under the Products sub-section. We should list the books if they are notable enough for their own page or few in number. It seems activity on this project is very limited and many ends are left loose (for example Wikipedia:WikiProject Organizations/Categorization). "Traded as" field in Infobox airline

Template:Infobox airline is used on airline articles in lieu of Template:Infobox company. While the airline infobox contains most of the parameters found in the company infobox, one notable omission is the "traded as" parameter for an airline's stock ticker. This seems like a useful parameter for companies, but my attempts to have it added to the airline infobox have been blocked for lack of consensus. Omission of this parameter means that airline companies like Delta Air Lines and Qantas do not have the stock symbol in their infobox. These two articles do have the symbol in their lead sentence, but such use is contrary to WP:TICKER and this RfC. Since activity on the airline infobox is limited and most comments come from members of WikiProject Aviation, I think some members of this project should comment on the matter: Template talk:Infobox airline#Needs traded_as field (and possibly others). Standard External Links for companies

I was wondering if providing a template with LinkedIn , Twitter and Youtube handles for a company will be a good idea . This template can be used in the External links section for all corporations specifically wherein this otherwise social media category holds importance in terms of a company's authenticity .

I am particularly skipping Template:Facebook since not many corporations are using it as an efficient channel yet, though I am not totally against it.

@Devopam: Currently Wikipedia:External links lists social media sites under WP:LINKSTOAVOID (#10). There are very rare exceptions, such as when the company is particularly known for its use of social media, but in most cases these links should be removed. Adding VanDutch as a company

Fist of all, I'm affiliated to VanDutch. A marketing manager was a bit too eager submitting an article to wikipedia and made it way too commercial instead of being informative and neutral. I have rewritten the article with good references from many respected boating and yachting sources such as boating.com, Canadian yachting magazine, nautiqueyachting.com, etc. It's similar to other yachting brands such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Ray and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayliner . Now I can't just upload it myself due to COI. What's the best way to upload it as a draft so it can be reviewed by an independent editor, without someone having to find all the information I already have collected, written about and styled in a wikipedia format?

I'm not sure I understand Devopam correctly, but please don't use somebody else's sandbox. Based on the sources provided however, it doesn't look like the company qualifies for a Wikipedia page. WP:CORP requires at least two in-depth profiles in the press written by independent, professional journalists, before a company can have a page, whereas these are just blurbs and listings. Anything with a "get more information: URL" is typically more of an advertisement or listing, whereas we need investigative journalism.

It covers the news that Marquis is building the VanDutch yachts. Marquis is hiring 100 extra employees for the order. Additionally it says the deal is for at least 420 yachts. The sales price of a single VanDutch yacht starts at over half a million USD, so it's an easy calculation to determine the minimum turnover we are talking about.

Clarification on company-related lists

Hello, occasionally I am cleaning up company articles from promo language and link spam, and come across 1) lists of offices and other non-notable subdivisions 2) lists of leading staff below top level executives 3) lists of "competitors". Commonly those lists are unsourced and we have to take the company's word for it. In my opinion such content is against WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATE (even though those types of lists are not explicitly mentioned). Could someone clarify the current consensus on such lists in company articles please or point me to the relevant guideline? I am fairly sure, this aspect has been discussed already, but can't find the specific information. Which types of lists are OK and which level of detail is acceptable? Help updating BP article

Hello, I am posting here as a COI editor with a request that I hope someone can help with. As I've noted here previously, I work for BP and I avoid making any direct edits myself. I recently made a request on the BP article's Talk page with updates based on the company's 2014 financial results and a few other new reports. A few of the requests have been completed, but there are still a few left. I wanted to ask if anyone here could make these changes. There is more information in my Talk page message, but here is an overview of my request:

  • Updating production numbers, such as proved reserves, barrels per day of oil equivalent produced, and cubic feet per day of natural gas produced
  • Updating the number of service stations and wells the company has

Hi editors, my name is Lucia and I work for PeoplePlus, a company recently formed (July 6th this year) through the merger of former welfare and training organisations Avanta and A4e. At first glance, yes. However, I looked at the edit history to see who created them and if they were spam. Both were created by User:Savvyjack23, who has made a substantial amount of edits on Wikipedia, especially on Haiti-related subjects. Help with a draft article

I need some help from someone familiar with company articles. Recently the article for the Assurance Agency was nominated for deletion as unambiguous promotion. I moved it to the draftspace (Draft:Assurance Agency) since there was somewhat of an assertion of notability and it's possible that the article could be cleaned. The article is kind of spammy, given that the coverage in the article is only glowing and it lists just about every award that the company has won. They all appear to be local awards, so I'm not sure that all of them are usable to show notability. The company sponsors one of the awards, so that one is obviously not usable for notability giving purposes. They've landed on some lists for major magazines/publishers, but some of those are just on the local level, which tends to be depreciated. Someone familiar with company awards definitely needs to take a look at this. There's also an issue with verification since some of the sourcing is used to source things that do not show notability. To top things off, only a small portion of the sourcing is actually independent of the company - you can read an overview of the sourcing here.

There's a COI concern here since the article does give off strong PR vibes and there's other evidence to suggest a PR/marketing person. The editor in question has stated that she is not, but I do think that she'd benefit from someone who can explain overall policy to her as far as companies are concerned. Support Article Request

I have requested an article for the company I currently work for, Cloudways. It is a Managed Cloud Web Hosting Provider. Back in 2013, whoever worked in the marketing department of this company, went on a spamming spree and got our website's homepage URL blacklisted on Wikipedia. I have asked for it to be removed from the blacklist. I have also requested an article on my company, as I believe we have been mentioned by reliable and renowned publications, which establishes notability. Introduction

  • The sentence: "It has over 11,000 stores in 28 countries, under a total of 65 banners" is no longer accurate.
    • Walmart has over 11,000 stores in 27 countries, under a total of 72 banners.[1]
  • If two inline citations are needed at the end of the first paragraph saying Walmart owns and operates Sam's Club, can we replace the 2010 annual report with the 2015 annual report[1] to make the references more current?

Retail rise to multinational status (1990–2005)

  • The first sentence in this section has a "Citation needed" tag. To address this, I propose rewriting that sentence:
    • While it was the No. 3 retailer in the U.S., Walmart was more profitable than rivals Kmart and Sears by the late 1980s. By 1990, it became the largest U.S. retailer by revenue.[2]
  • At the end of that paragraph, there is another "Citation needed" tag. We can rewrite the following sentence to eliminate redundancy and add a proper inline citation. Perhaps this would work:
    • Walmart stores opened throughout the rest of the country, with Vermont being the last state to get a store in 1995.[3]

Operating divisions

  • The opening paragraph relies on the 2010 annual report, so is now outdated by five years. The following is the most accurate current description, based on the 2015 annual report:
    • The company offers various retail formats throughout these divisions, including supercenters, supermarkets, hypermarkets, warehouse clubs, cash-and-carry stores, home improvement, specialty electronics, restaurants, apparel stores, drugstores, convenience stores and digital retail.[1]

Walmart U.S.

  • Revenue figures are five years old. To bring this up to date, the figures should say $288 billion, or 59.8 percent of total sales, for fiscal 2015.[4]

Sam's Club

  • Again, the revenue figures are outdated. They should say Sam's Club's sales were $58 billion, or 12 percent, during fiscal 2015.[4]

Corporate affairs

  • The reference to the 2010 annual report can be switched to the 2015 annual report, which echoes the earlier report's business model.[1]
  • I propose adding mention of current CEO Doug McMillon after the second sentence of the Corporate affairs section:
    • Doug McMillon became Walmart's CEO on February 1, 2014. McMillon began his Walmart career in warehouses while in high school. He has also worked as the head of Sam's Club and Walmart International.[5]

The bank (or the holding company) was officially known as Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank International until 2014, which some the Balkans subsidiaries were spin off as Hypo Group Alpe Adria (a holding company that purchased by Advent International), Italian subsidiary as HBI-Bundesholding AG in 2014. The parent company was renamed into Heta Asset Resolution, so how to properly rewrite the articles the reflect the new and old bank, good and old bank? The history of old Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank should include in which article? in bad bank or good bank, or create another one? DriveTime logo and article update

Hi, I've created and proposed a new draft of the DriveTime article. The existing article that has evolved over the years is currently tagged as reading like an advertisement. In fact, the article contains unencyclopedic language and focuses a lot on DriveTime's predecessor, Ugly Duckling. I'm hoping editors will see that my draft eliminates WP:POV issues and is neutral and well-sourced. I'm new to Wikipedia and I've studied the site's guideline on conflict of interest and policy on paid editing. As an employee of DriveTime Automotive Group, Inc., I won't edit the article directly. The draft you'll see in my user space is essentially a complete rewrite. I originally posted an edit request on the DriveTime Talk page. While an earlier editor seemed interested in taking a look at my request, they had to excuse themself because they just don't have the time.

Additionally, I have uploaded a logo (File:DriveTime_logo.png) that can be used on the article. I received an automated message pointing out this will be deleted unless it's added to an article, so I hope someone can help before that happens.

Can somebody give a look?

Though I believe it is out of scope of this project which covers for-profit companies. The 12 line list in the edit is legally exclusively required of non-profit companies for public scrutiny.
