Example[edit]

This is just a random comment; there is a page, Melnikov (disambiguation) that Sheynhertz-Unbayg did not create, and has had nothing to do with, which seems to be an example of the type of thing he is trying to create with his nonsense onomastics pages. I just thought it would be useful to link to that page here. ONUnicorn 16:57, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is pretty weird, but it's not as bad as the ones Sheynhertz makes. By the way, if you're involved with this issue, please endorse the summary (if you agree with it, but I assume this is pretty uncontroversial). Mo-Al 17:01, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've been watching this controversy unfold since ‎Roth (onomastics) was nominated for deletion; but I wouldn't say I was involved. I stumbled on Roth when I was working on articles tagged for clean-up, and since I didn't think there was much I could do with it I replaced the general clean-up tag with the confusing clean-up tag, which brought it to the attention of someone else who nominated it for deletion. I've since been watching everything that's gone on with interest; but I don't think I'm involved enough to endorse the request. Moreover, I'm not entierly convinced that these pages couldn't eventually become something useful. Make sense? ONUnicorn 18:33, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but this page is about Sheynhertz's actions, not the pages per se. Even if the pages could be useful, he refuses to listen to others and frequently reverts constructive edits. Besides, there are two different sections for those who were directly involved, and those who endorse it but were not directly in the dispute. Mo-Al 18:39, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have endorsed it. Having watched it happen, even if I wasn't involved, I do know what's been going on and agree with your summary of events.

Language[edit]

It seems pretty obvious that Sheynhertz is not a native English speaker. Would it be easier to reason with him in Hebrew? (obviously his native language is Japanese) Mo-Al 06:23, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admittedly he would be the most fluent in Japanese, but speaking in Hebrew would be worthy to try. A relevant proposal; how about bringing Jewish people and ask them to talk to him? In my impression on Japanese Wikipedia, his view is strongly influenced by Jewish view of world, though I am not sure he has grown up in a Jewish culture or he studied it intentionally and learned it. --Aphaia 20:16, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'll try contacting him in Hebrew. Mo-Al 22:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps his ISP could be contacted with our concerns about his mental health. This case might justify some sort of intervention, by some sort of professionals.--Batamtig 07:16, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Batamtig, I am not a lawyer, but I think such disclosure/contact might not happen due to Japanese jurisdiction, unless you find a possible contact around him by chance. For several reasons, we can say he might live in somewhere in Eniwa, Hokkaido or around, unless he moved after he had been banned from Japanese Wikipedia, but I don't think even this information helpful to contact him closely ... --Aphaia 09:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well at least it should be possible for his ISP to contact him without publicly disclosing information. --Batamtig 08:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New response from him on his talk page[edit]

As worrying and bizarre as before, see here. I've tried again to reason with him to get him to communicate. --Batamtig 08:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My interaction with him[edit]

Sheynhertz-Unbayg has made many requests for translation into English from Hebrew on Wikipedia:Translation_into_English/Hebrew. The articles he has requested in the past have mostly been quite important and deserving of translation, and indeed I have answered one or two of his requests.

Since around July, however, he has requested a large number of translations of biographical articles. Some of the requested articles are truly useless. For example, it seems that he took every article in the Hebrew Wikipedia about someone with last name Schor and asked that it be translated. This indicates to me that his onomastics obsession may be becoming a hinderance. This is sad, especially since his previous requests have been so useful. nadav 08:45, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Onomastics pages[edit]

What should a page on onomastics of a name look like? S-U's typically look like several concatenated disambiguation pages containing only lists of names, a purpose better served by List of people by name and ordinary disambiguation pages. I would like him to stop taking disambiguation pages and adding lots of other names to them, our "interaction" about this today can be seen at Jud and Jud (onomastics). As usual, he referred to my revert to make the disambiguation page conform to the MoS:DP as "vandalism". Kusma (討論) 12:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

I have started blocking Sheynhertz-Unbayg for hos persistent refusal to change his behaviour. While he did communicate with me about content, he never answered to any communication about his methods and why they are wrong. I don't see anything to do but escalating blocks to (hopefully) make him cooperate. Kusma (討論) 09:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sheynhertz answered by the usual nonsense and by block evasion using two IPs and the sockpuppet L.Kugelmann (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log). I don't quite know what to do any more. Kusma (討論) 17:50, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Kusma, I believe you've done your best. We've all tried to help and failed. Nothing more can be done. I don't think he should be allowed to continue any longer. He has refused for a long time now to change his ways or communicate at all really. His contributions, if they were positive in the past, are now harmful. He should be blocked completely. If arb committee is next step, then we should go ahead with that. nadav 21:17, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have indefinitely blocked Sheynhertz-Unbayg for persistent block evasion and refusal to communicate. See this post at WP:AN. "Indefinitely" means until he starts engaging in meaningful communication. Kusma (討論) 08:09, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked his IP ranges for six months, see User:Kusma/Sheynhertz. Note also his personal attacks and threats at de:Benutzer Diskussion:Kusma and another suicide threat. Kusma (討論) 16:59, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
