Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Quitestreams: The set of articles edited by new user Quitestreams (talk · contribs) are exclusively articles also edited by banned user Zongqi (talk · contribs). User Quitestreams' edits restore material that had been initially introduced by user Zongqi.

  • For the article Ikigai, user Quitestreams's edit [1] restores the same section user Zongqi introduced at [2] and vigorously maintained during an edit war, the last attempt being here: [3].
  • For the article Gogyo, we can see that user Quitestreams's edit [4] restores some of the same verbiage initially added here from user Zongqi: [5]

Green light3: a single-purpose account with a name bearing a hard-to-miss similarity to that of Green cigarette (talk · contribs), with whom user Zongqi engaged in a content dispute prior to his (Zongqi's) account being blocked: [6].

  • Note that user Green light3's edit [7] at the Ikigai article reintroduces the same error "can not" (vs "cannot") as user Zongqi ([[8]]) and user Quitestreams ([[9]]).

  • Gonna drop this in here - this is the ANI report I filed against Green light3, inc. relevant diffs, to save time in digging them up. It's pretty clear they're a one-purpose account if nothing else. --Ineffablebookkeeper (talk) 11:49, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • CheckUser requested and endorsed by clerk - there's credible evidence that all of the accounts listed here (including ShodoSuzuki (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) and Time to space (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) are related to each other. Given that they appear to be running multiple accounts concurrently, a sleeper check makes sense. --Blablubbs|talk 00:27, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Quitestreams and Green light3 are sequential accounts, and Zongqi is stale. – bradv🍁 01:19, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ShodoSuzuki is also sequential with the other two, and Time to space is likewise stale. – bradv🍁 01:25, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I edit-conflicted with Bradv while checking this; I'm not sure if Bradv also checked but he didn't update the case status. Based only on my own investigation, Quietstreams and Green light3 are  Possilikely (a mix between possible and likely) - they use the same ISP, and each one consistently uses a mobile device with the same OS version but a different browser. ShodoSuzuki is  Possible to both based on network and geolocation. There was not enough to go on for a sleeper check, and all of the accounts that I did not name are  Stale. I suggest trusting your behavioural analysis for this report. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 01:28, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

30 March 2022[edit]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Zongqi was blocked from editing on 8 February 2021; several socks were then identified in May 2021. Since then, the Dorthyyellow account was created on 27 August 2021, Kindbynature on 24 November 2021, and Troyfall on 17 February 2022 (but only has a single edit). Both Zongqi and Kindbynature have edited various articles about Chinese and Japanese traditional practices ([11] and [12]), with both repeatedly editing Wuxing (Chinese philosophy) and articles about Aikido. Zongqi heavily edited Gogyo, a topic they also repeatedly introduced at other articles (bizarrely inserting it into the opening paragraph of Shinto, for example; [13]). Dorthyyellow, meanwhile, has almost exclusively edited the Gogyo article; the only exception being an edit to Wuxing (Chinese philosophy) ([14]). Troyfall was also responsible for introducing information about Gogyo to an article on aikido ([15]). This sock is heavily preoccupied with Gogyo and Wuxing.

Both Zongqi and Kindbynature show similar patterns of adding information that is either unreferenced or cited to inappropriate sources, a willingness to edit war, and similar idiosyncrasies in their writing style, such as words beginning in upper-case that would normally begin in lower-case (compare [16] and [17]). Both the Zongqi and Kindbynature accounts use the same terminology in their edit summaries, i.e. regularly starting with "Addition of[...]" ([18]. [19], [20], [21], [22] and [23], [24], [25]) or including the terms "foundational" ([26], [27] and [28]) and "Clarification" ([29], [30], [31] and [32]). The accounts repeatedly use the same terminology against those who revert their contributions; Troyfall complains of their "mallice [sic] edit" ([33]), Kindbynature accuses others of "malicious exciting [sic]" ([34]), while Dorthyyellow favors the accusation that others display a "malicious manner" ([35]; [36]; [37]) and "malicious intentions" ([38]). Dorthyyellow also makes false accusations of "vandalism" against editors who revert them ([39]; [40], [41]), which was exactly what Zongqi was originally blocked for ([42]).

The sock is clearly using multiple accounts on the same article, specifically Aikido styles. On 22 November 2021 (two days before the creation of Kindbynature), a Sydney-based IP added a paragraph discussing Gogyo to the article. Their edit summaries also began with "Addition of..." ([43]), just like Zongqi and Kindbynature. The addition was removed, at which Troyfall appeared on 17 February 2022 and restored it ([44]). Again it was removed, at which another Sydney-based IP restored it; again their edit summary began with "Addition of..." ([45]). After it was yet again deleted, Kindbynature appeared and edit warred to re-instate the same paragraph on 26 and 27 February 2022 ([46], [47]). Two IPs in the same city and two accounts all trying to get the same paragraph into the article; highly suspicious.

This is an obvious case of a blocked editor trying to re-establish their presence on Wikipedia. They are clearly edit warring using multiple accounts and IP addresses in the Sydney area and are repeeating behaviors which got them blocked to begin with. • I thought the editing at Aikido styles was rather suspect, so I ran a check. There isn't a lot to go on, but what there is suggests that Kindbynature and Troyfall are  Likely to one another - too likely for me to believe that Troyfall showing up at that article to reinstate Kindbynature's content could possibly be a coincidence. The other accounts are all stale, but the geolocations are a match for the CU log records of Zongqi and previous socks. Behavioural comparison would be needed to be sure of the connection to previous accounts, and to be confident about the Dorothyyellow account. Girth Summit (blether) 11:39, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Based on the evidence in the filing, I'm convinced that Kindbynature and Troyfall are socks of each other and of Zongqi. (I'm quite sure Dorthyyellow is too, but since that account only edited for a single day in August 2021, I'm not sure blocking it at this point would serve a preventative purpose). Pink clock Awaiting administrative action - please indef Kindbynature and Troyfall. No action with the IPs for now, as they haven't edited recently. 04 April 2022[edit]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Zongqi is a blocked serial sockpuppet with a particular focus on editing the article Gogyo. As the material they added to the Gogyo article is heavily flawed, based on the use of non-Reliable Sources and the incorrect use of other sources, it was removed and proposals made to merge the Gogyo article into Wuxing (Chinese philosophy) on 1 April 2022. Unsurprisingly, on 3 April 2022 the Winterlighter account appeared and restored all of Zongqi's additions to the Gogyo article, removing the link to the merge discussion ([48]). In their edit summaries, Winterlighter also used the phrase "Addition of..." ([49]), which was a characteristic of earlier Zongqi socks ([50]. [51], [52], [53], [54], [55], [56], [57]), and also accused other editors of "malicious" editing ([58]; [59]) which again was a characteristic of Zongqi socks ([60]; [61]; [62]; [63]; [64]). Midnightblueowl (talk) 11:10, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Winterlighter has now also started editing Aikido styles, another haunt of previous Zongqi socks (namely Kindbynature and Troyfall), to restore information those socks previously added to the article. Again they are edit warring and making false claims about other editors ("This is hounding and online lynching" [65], [66]), a trait for which Zongqi was originally blocked.
