Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Hello,
CComp542Veraion19 is a new user with few edits on one topic. The account was created on 10 February 2024 and started to edit the page List of fatal dog attacks in the United States in February. The edits were not supported by a source or an reliable source. (contribs)

  • On 20 March 2024 the user Traumnovelle proposed the page for deletion and used the edits of "CComp542Veraion19" as a supporting argument why this page should be deleted. (diff)

Quote: "[...] many of the entries are sourced to dogsbites.org which isn't a reliable source (see: diff) and I've noticed a few entries were not supported by source. This list is near impossible to maintain and review and has little encyclopaedic value. [...] Traumnovelle (talk) 02:20, 20 March 2024 (UTC)"

And the user Traumnovelle also replied this to a comment in the deletion discussion:

"It's over 65 entires that are cited to dogsbite.org, that's a substantial portion of the article. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:43, 20 March 2024 (UTC)"

  • Nearly all those entries were made by the user CComp542Veraion19 in the section "Fatalities prior to 2016" see for example "Revision as of 22:27, 10 March 2024 " (diff)
  • The motivation for sockpuppetry seems to be: Strengthen the argument for deletion of the page List of fatal dog attacks in the United States
  • The user also has a second account User:Sacristy, maybe this work account can also be used to check if user:CComp542Veraion19 is a socket puppet. The spelling in the edit summaries is horrible by CComp542Veraion19 , but I think that is to make it look like it is not the same user. (Also the talking to each other on the talk page of CComp542Veraion19. (user talk page)

It is also strange that the user CComp542Veraion19 does not participate in the deletion discussion. I leave it up to you if you think CheckUser is needed.

  • I hope this is enough reason to check this out. But I thought since the deletion of a page is at risk I give it a try. Thank you for your time. Wikigrund (talk) 15:02, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accused parties may also comment/discuss in this section below. See Defending yourself against claims.
Sorry to butt in here - I've changed your references to specific wikilinks, as there was a reflist in the admin comments section. Wikigrund, please feel free to revert that if you so choose. I would also recommend finding more specific edits, and providing those diffs. Schrödinger's jellyfish  16:22, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And now a comment as a passer-by: from the banner at the top of the page on the page at the time of posting, it looks as if there's been a Reddit post or other outside post drawing attention to the article, and subsequently, the AfD. It's not uncommon for people unfamiliar with Wikipedia's inner workings (like an AfD) to come in and try to improve an article, failing to understand what WP:RS means and what constitutes a reliable source.
While both editors edit in the dog area, CComp542Veraion19 appears to be a SPA created solely to edit List of fatal dog attacks in the United States. Per the interaction timeline, Traumnovelle & CComp didn't meet on the article until March 20th. The only articles they've both edited are the US list, List of fatal dog attacks in the United Kingdom, and CComp's user talk page. While I'm not saying it's impossible that CComp is a sockpuppet (though they're clearly a single purpose account), I personally doubt a connection between the two without any significant evidence (ex similar editing styles, wording, edit summaries, significant overlap on pages edited, pushing certain revisions for the other account).
