Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

All accounts have edited the season articles of various football clubs. After the initial account was temporarily blocked a couple times for WP:CIR concerns, they started using socks to continue updating weekly results for the articles which the sockmaster created/frequently edited. The same unique editing style of RhodesAvenue has been used by the socks: using {{Flagicon}} for referees, using incorrect dashes, and commenting out the team's remaining fixtures (all seen here by the sockmaster and here, here, and here by socks). This case was created at my recommendation. Up to now, the master's Talk page has been used to "record" the newly blocked accounts. From now on, when needed, this case may be reopened if there are new suspected socks. All the accounts are blocked I believe and tagged (the clerk should check before archiving). Nothing more to do here except thank the filer. Closing.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:39, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Confirmed, blocked and tagged. No other accounts seen. @Sir Sputnik: This master does not normally create sleepers or other accounts at the same time. He is a serial sockmaster, creating one and then not creating the next until the one he's using is blocked. In the future, if the behavioral connection is persuasive, the account should just be blocked without requesting/endorsing a CU. Closing.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:42, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

I'm not familiar with WP:SPI so I hope I'm doing this right, but here goes. WP:DUCK applies here as this user shares many of the characteristic traits of this prolific sockpuppeteer's editing, such as flagicons for referees and frequently using the wrong dashes, such as here, and the commenting out of remaining fixtures as seen here. The editor also edits within the same niche as all the previous sockpuppets (football club season articles). WP:SIMNAME applies as previous sockpuppets have also included 'CFC'. Also, this account was created 19 days after the previous sockpuppet was blocked. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 20:57, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • this is the penultimate edit from the sockmaster prior to their block, whilst this and this are edits from the most recent sock, and this, this and this are edits from CFC1397. All of the edits for both CFC1397 and the sockmaster and previous sockpuppets are ithin the very narrow niche of club season articles. They all use the same {{football box collapsible}} format, whilst the characteristic flagicons for referees, use of incorrect dashes and commenting out of remaining fixtures are all present. • Microwave Anarchist,  Additional information needed. In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. GeneralNotability (talk) 01:11, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

WP:DUCK applies (incorrect use of dashes and flagicons for referees - [1], [2], [3]) and WP:SIMNAME applies - 18 previous socks included '90' and multiple others have included 'TBJ', or 'TJ', which would presumably be the sockmaster's initials. Both this account and the previous socks edits almost exclusively within the same niche and they have edited many of the same articles. The account has existed since October 2020, shortly after Copa90 was blocked, but has only been editing regularly since 19 July 2021, the day after Tom111290, the last sock, was blocked. Yoshi has made multiple attempts to submit Draft:2022 Asian Games closing ceremony without adding any sources ever. This draft was created by the sockmaster KimSumi21 (who I believe also created the now deleted mainspace version of this draft) and has also been edited by Simonen1998, another KimSumi21 sock. Edits of just submitting without improving make it seem like a WP:DUCK, but would be good to check for sleepers. JuanJose1994 was registered yesterday, and for a 'new' account knows a lot of tricks, while also somehow managing at the same time to be pretty incompetent. They have a penchant for basketball and AsiaPac 2023-24 seasonal stuff, and a couple of their first edits were to J.League World Challenge where an earlier sock from this farm (Simonen1998) edited, too. The username is also similar to the previous socks, as in NameYYYY. I realise none of that is exactly a smoking gun, but does it warrant looking into at least? --DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC) DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

JuanJose is now blocked per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Sportsik1998. Are the two cases connected, or was this KimSumi one a false lead? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:57, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at usernames of the socks, I think they could be the same person (as Simonen1998, a sock of KimSumi21, also used 1998 in their name, which is similar in name to Sportsik1998, and most of the socks have had years in their name). Mkdw are you able to work out whether these cases are connected, and if so, merge them? Joseph2302 (talk) 08:09, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment I also notice this user has 1994 in their username, as did the last sock Yoshi1994. And they're creating/submitting almost empty drafts for future sports events, which Yoshi1994 was also doing. Also, both Simonen and JuanJose1994 have added the same unsourced information relating to 2024 event of the J.League World Challenge, see Simonen, JuanJose. I would therefore be surprised if this isn't the same user. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:52, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Looks like a duck to me, with further evidence as well as that mentioned above. I have blocked the account, deleted all the pages created except one where another editor has made a fairly significant contribution, and rolled back recent edits. I shall tag the account. I'm not sure about the Checkuser request. CU isn't needed to confirm this sockpuppet, and history suggests sleepers are very unlikely, as the usual practice is to start using each new account within a few minutes of creating it. On the other hand, since some sockpuppets have been able to edit for quite a while before being found, there may be a point in a CU for possible active but undetected socks.
