Suspected sockpuppets


The sole purpose of the now indefinitely-blocked Gabriella account was to create very short articles which were supposed to be redirects, which she persisted in doing even after being told by other users not to and even after being temporarily blocked. These redirects almost always pertained to the Monster High franchise. This account, Nancybabe1-O-1, has been doing almost exactly the same thing. User basically doxxes herself on her user page here (which, BTW, should probably be scrubbed). Here is the redacted content:

Hello, I am (Redacted), but you may call me (Redacted), or DixieXGonnerShipper1, or Lover of of the Ship of Gonner and Dixie together! I am simply trying to do my best, so do not block him for any purposes. This is an account that I used my aunt's IP address at her house for to log in, since I cannot any longer create a new account at my own house! :(

In the same edit she states that her home IP has been blocked, and she is not able to create a new account there, so she is instead editing from her aunt's--that is rather telling. Three edits in as a Wikipedia user, you will notice a string of redirects, which is ballsy for a n00b, plus the user drops some WikiLove to herself on a secondary account DixieXGonnerShipper2, demonstrating her old roots as a sock operator. (The second account has been blocked.) There are also obvious intersections between this new user and the master, for instance here where we see the new account editing after one of the socks turned the article into a redirect. In fact, the proximity between this new account and some of the other accounts on obscure articles is how I figured out there was a sock issue. Another example here. Should be enough for a checkuser. Dixie&GonnerForever1 is an obvious sock by name, along with behavior and area of interest. The second is LoveBabe111. The latter isn't named the same way, but I suspect her for a few reasons:

  1. She has "love" in her user name and several of the other socks seem fixated on love/romance/relation"shipping". ("Dixie&Gonner", for example is a reference to two characters from Daddy, I'm a Zombie who the sock jobber claims are in love.) Not the best evidence, I know.
  2. LoveBabe111 has edited a niche article created by the sock operator, which has been regularly maintained by New Jersey-based IPs 151.198.29.17 and 70.111.20.241 who, like the sock operator, have a little trouble with English grammar sometimes, ("Dixie is a young, adolescence girl") and who add unnecessary wikilinks for common words like parents, male, boy, and her. The article was also edited by DixieXGonnerShipper2 who was a quickly-blocked secondary account for DixieXGonnerShipper1.
  3. Here LoveBabe111 adds unnecessary wikilinks for forehead, tone and friend. Here one of the other socks adds content that contains absurd wikilinks like crush, evil, fist, powerful, etc.
  4. There are also some grammatical similarities, specifically weird grammar choices like "Dixie Grim, (or Dixie Malasombra as the Spanish version goes)" or "Dixie Grim, (known Dixie Malasombra in the Spanish version)".

Anyhow, I wouldn't mind getting a CU just so I could feel better about reverting past the entirety of these two editors' edits per WP:RBI. No CU is requested for the IPs for obvious reasons. Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:12, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: I feel very comfortable with the behavioral evidence presented, so I've blocked the accounts. I also gave a 1 week IP block for 70.111.20.241. 151.198.29.17 hasn't edited for a few weeks, so I'm inclined to leave it be for now. I also semi-protected the target article for two weeks. In regards to a check, I don't know if it's really needed. The behavior is readily apparent and Courcelles made the comment that the IP range is quite wide, which puts a range block out of the picture. Personally, I think it's best to just play whack-a-mole as the socks pop up. I wouldn't be concerned about your reverts, they seem fine to me and you can let me know if any trouble comes from it. Comprehensive re-write of Ever After High in these 14 edits. Unexplained reordering of characters. Unexplained removal of embedded notes. Unexplained removal of references. Unexplained removal of valid formatting tools like {{vanchor}} templates. Unexplained and unsourced original research in the form of crush-crufty speculation and assertions, some of which are laden with redundancy: "although later on, she starts dating and going out with Dexter Charming", "He is perhaps Bunny's boyfriend (he is often seen with his arm around her or brushing the hair out of her face)", "Madeline (who goes formally by the nickname Maddie)", etc. Some of this content had previously existing in the article, but was suppressed by AngusWOOF who has been working on improving it and getting rid of the nonsense.

There are other obvious intersections as well. This user has edited at Monster High where she has added trivial content ("whose gender is amused male") and who has inexplicably removed an infobox from the article. There is also an intersection at Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse where the sock operator has edited and this sock has too, yet again changing the country parameter from "United States" and "Canada" to "Universal" as if that's a place. This change had previously been made by DixieXGonnerShipper1 and 70.111.1.146

User talk page reads: Everyone, I just doing or trying to do my best, okay? -_- :( which echoes very similarly this whining from the sock operator, "I am simply trying to do my best, so do not block him for any purposes." (Gender pronouns are maybe not this young woman's specialty.) I think that's a strong duck case. CU is always welcome, but in the meantime, I'm reverting on general principle. Most of the recent edits from logged-in users at Ever After High have been from socks of Gabriella~four.3-6. This was obviously one of her areas of interest. OneSider has edited at numerous articles related to this franchise see her history. I'm seeing a lot of edits at Ever After High recently, many of which are problematic for introducing personal opinions, speculation, and other interpretive content...color cruft etc. Gabby had a tendency to barrel through articles and make a ton of changes, which is consistent with what OneSider has done lately.

Both she and Gabriella have also edited at Barbie-related articles.

Gabriella was also known for creating lots of article redirects,[8][9] which OneSider does here and here and here.

Also, all of OneSider's edits have been marked as minor, which is also what Gabby was doing recently.[10][11][12]

Likes to change spellings to how she feels it should be especially with the Japanese anime characters and researches on and on about some episode without citing it, adding notes about how the character's name is translated without anything to back it up. as Gabby's sock on R+V characters similar edits on Vampire Knight characters The only difference is that she is no longer marking all her edits as minor. Hey Crow, I recently got access to UTRS, and I can tell you that Gabby's most recent appeal was declined for failing to acknowledge the reason for her block. None of her responses to the questions are compelling in any way. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post her answers publicly, so I won't, but the gist of the answer to "Why do you believe you should be unblocked?" is 'I've been blocked for a long time and I have a lot of a Monster High stuff to change.' The other questions she opts not to answer: "Why do you think there is a block currently affecting you? If you believe it's in error, tell us how." "Is there anything else you would like us to consider when reviewing your block?" She's filed two other UTRS tickets, and neither is any more compelling.   • As Ponyo has noted, I have given Gabriella detailed information on how to get unblocked, but I also agree with with Ponyo that this is a competence case through and through, and I don't think Gabriella could contribute constructively even if we were to buy that her intentions were good. I don't think she's ever engaged in constructive discourse with anyone here and her continued submission of misspelled, grammatically flawed, POV content is indicative of a lack of competence. I think we're dealing with someone who has significant behavioral and/or cognitive obstacles, and who is probably not as closely monitored as she should be. Here's an example of the continued incompetence:

In addition to the poorly written content (tone, grammar, "just trying to get deal with unlife", etc) note the repetitious wikilinking of "sea monster", and the wikilink for "ocean monster", which Comito created as a redirect to sea monster, because for some reason she thought that the paragraph needed three links to the same article? Two links to Great Barrier Reef? This is not rational thinking. On a related note, it would be appreciated if those regulars who run into her frequently would please remember to check for edits from New Jersey-based IPs and revert those as well. Thanks. As I was looking through the edits of WhenYouTouchMe, a duck that I blocked today, I happened upon some accounts at List of Family Guy characters that were evocative of Gabby accounts.

  • IHeartYou-700 has a lovey-dovey theme. WhenYouTouchMe is similar. I see minor edits, with quickly-created user page. Gabby user pages often contain some sort of faux-friendly content, often a plea. In this case, "Add to page, please?" Compare to WhenYouTouchMe "Hey! Good to meet you! -- Hope we get along well! :)"
  • SaagLover5~TeachMetheSaangDancealso.7 - Note username structure similarity to Gabriella~four.3-6. Similar user page stuff. "I have a question. How do I get "Voiced by" for a fictional animated cartoon character not linked at all, especially linked to "Voice acting"? How do I get it within the link???"
  • There are a couple of others that are curious to me. CheeseSticks1000, because some of Gabby's socks have been food-themed (Cupcakes and muffins, pizza bagels, etc.) and BabyWhenWe'reTouchingintheDark, for the lovey-dovey theme. However, neither of these has edited enough to say conclusively.

I've just checked the /20 range, no WP:COLLATERAL to worry about. A softblock with account creation blocked is probably fine, right?   • @User456541: Your report is appreciated, but I haven't seen any obvious Gabriella socks in a while, which doesn't mean that she's *not* doing stuff, but the articles that this reported user is editing doesn't even seem like her area of interest, which is typically stuff like Monsters High and anime and vampire shows--basically escapist stuff. I also don't see any edits that are clearly Gabriella-style. She doesn't think she's vandalising, she thinks she's helping, and her attempts to help typically include incompetent results. That said, I do note that this editor's name references a Nickelodeon Loud House character, and their user page previously had some mention of this Active 24/7. Poopoo. I'm 1.3 years old. (y.m) View this page for more info about my show. My show had 4 seasons and premiered in May 16, 2016. So there is some potential. I just don't see anything that is blatantly convincing just yet.     Cyphoidbomb, The last time I looked at this was 9 months ago, when I blocked 72.68.0.0/20 for a year. So, you may be right that their MO lately has been to do IP instead of creating new socks, but the IP block forced them back to using accounts?  Check declined by a checkuser. User456541, simply having a similar username as another editor is nowhere near enough evidence to run a checkuser or block. Regarding the second half of your request, fish CheckUser is not for fishing. RoySmith, checkusers will not publicly disclose the connection between a user account and an IP address (or an IP address range in this case) as per the privacy policy. Here are the similarities:

1. This is a Verizon range that geolocates to New Jersey, similar to Gabriella's range 72.68.0.0/20 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial))

2. The range has edited List of Bob's Burgers characters, which has been edited 58 times by the /20 range (per XTools). Another article shared between the /20 and the /44 is Archie's Weird Mysteries.

3. The writing style is quite similar, especially the fairly liberal usage of hyphens: compare 72.68.0.59 ("lavender-purple", "violet-purple", "light-purple"), 2600:1001:a100:2a61:9076:4084:212:70f1 ("tucked-in", "theme-music"), 2600:1001:A100:13F1:ED30:72E6:E6A7:A48F ("well-endowed," also overlinking which is a noted behavior of Gabriella), also 2600:1001:A100:13F1:ED30:72E6:E6A7:A48F (traditionally-masculine).
