Invalid FUR--doesn't pass WP:NFCC#8 because it's not discussed critically. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:00, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: The file is being used to identify a television show. Use of title cards of TV shows has been allowed here as long as I've been a Wikipedia editor. Use for the biographical article is wrong. If the fair-use rationale is bad, fix it. — trlkly 17:19, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as WP:NFCC#8 is likely satisfied in Watch Mr. Wizard. Nominator may want to go to WP:NFCR to discuss usage in Don Herbert. RJaguar3 | u | t 16:06, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is already a piece of non-free media which displays what is conveyed in this picture: File:Watson_Jeopardy.jpg. Furthermore, that photo also has the machine alongside human opponents, giving it better context. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:19, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File:Christian Swartz.xcf (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Gregbard (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This file is a free image, yet is in a relatively uncompressed format, and has a higher quality (and higher resolution) version available on Commons at File:Christian Swartz.tiff. Also, despite being in a production format, this image does not include any production information, and can safely be deleted without losing any information. The renderer for this format is also quite slow. — trlkly 17:15, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:NFCC#8: not critically discussed. We already have another image of him in the infobox. Stefan2 (talk) 18:57, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • If, by WP:NFCC#8: not critically discussed, do you mean that the content of the image is not used to illuminate an aspect of Hosea Williams work as an African-American civil rights activist? The most pertinent sentence, in the article, to this questioning, is "While organizing during the 1965 Selma Voting Rights Movement he also led the first attempt at a 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, and was tear gassed and beaten severely. The Selma demonstrations and this "Bloody Sunday" attempt led to the other great legislative accomplishment of the movement, the Voting Rights Act of 1965." The image used is not just of Hosea Williams. It is an identification aid used by Alabama law enforcement during the 1960s civil rights era to identify activists in the 1960s era civil rights era. The use of this image '...individuals involved...' combines an image of the subject of the biography and printed identification information that was used by the forces opposing the Selma to Montgomery marches. The composite image of photograph and text is from a compilation of hundreds of 'identification cards' kept on demonstrators for civil rights who individually and collectively were targets of harassment, jailings, and beatings by the Alabama State Police and other organizations. Hosea Williams, among others, was specifically identified as subject to this treatment. The composite image is an example of what opposed civil rights activists in Alabama in the 1960s; most notably in the marches in Selma, Alabama that were violently stopped at the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
If this is not clearly shown in the the article, then it is the fault of my prose. The purpose of the image in this article is to show context to Williams' civil rights activism in a way that can not be shown by words and images alone, and in a way that is strengthened by a document from the time. I continue to work on improving and expanding the article - Neonorange (talk) 19:58, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Considering the importance within the United States (and particularly within the southern United States) of the African American civil rights movement, there is a paucity of images; of leaders, individuals, and events. Wikipedia Commons has one image connected with Hosea Williams, a campaign button. Unreasonably restricting 'fair use' of images from this struggle hides a part of history. This is an era prior to digital cameras and selfies; but it was still an era of government surveillance and enemies lists. Restrictive views of 'fair use' in this case robs the history of the struggle to vote, hiding away the methods that were used to rob a people of the right to vote. This goes against WP:NPOV. - Neonorange (talk) 07:13, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a public domain image. I've searched and am convinced this was published without a copyright notice. Given the date this is now in the public domain. Can't find evidence on the original of a (c) notice nor any renewal reference. I expect that at the time this was produced the Alambama authorities wanted it reproduced, though within a limited circle, and copyright would not have been a consideration. - Peripitus (Talk) 06:57, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per my arguments above as 'fair use' and the arguments of Peripitus for 'in public domain'. - Neonorange (talk) 19:26, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that we need two pictures of this portrait in the article. The Tiananmen version should be enough. Stefan2 (talk) 20:32, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep The one in Tianamen Square was done by a team of artists, while he did this one not as a team. If we're showing his talents, it should be the one where we can identify his efforts. -- 70.50.148.122 (talk) 05:00, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:NFCC#8 (lack of contextual significance). There is no sourced commentary about the differences between the website design in various languages. RJaguar3 | u | t 23:44, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
