Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to City of Shoalhaven. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. JBW (talk) 20:33, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think your comment is very insulting, I've put hundreds of hours into this directory as a free service to connect businesses within the shoalhaven community. And you call it inappropriate ... ??? Skizcorp (talk) 21:09, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not as if i'm making money from this. Skizcorp (talk) 21:09, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Almost all of us, when we start editing Wikipedia, know little or nothing about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, so nobody can be blamed for starting out doing things that are contrary to policies and guidelines that they don't know about. I was just informing you of relevant Wikipedia guidelines and policies, in the hope of helping you to know for the future. If you continued to edit without knowing of those policies and guidelines, there's a risk that you might have carried on doing the same thing, because you didn't know that it wasn't acceptable. Editors who continue to edit contrary to Wikipedia policies and guidelines may be blocked from editing by administrators, and I hope that won't happen to you.
You may like to think about your message, and consider whether there might have been a better way of expressing your disappointment. Wikipedia policy does not allow editing to publicise or promote anything, no matter how much time and effort have been used in creating the thing being publicised, or whether anyone is making money out of it. I wish you success in your work to help the Shoalhaven community to find businesses, but I'm afraid Wikipedia isn't the right place to publicise that work. Please let me know if you think there is any more clarification or advice I may b able to give you. JBW (talk) 12:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
