In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia policies. In addition, the use of a username like yours violates our username policy.

You may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you.

Your reason should include your response to this issue and a new username you wish to adopt that does not violate our username policy (specifically, understand that accounts are for individuals, not companies or groups, and that your username should reflect this). Usernames that have already been taken are listed here.

Request reason:

I work for all four City College campuses. I don't have any bad intentions by using my username other than contribute to the site. Thank you

Decline reason:

Your editing in this manner is in violation of our policies. Mangojuicetalk 19:55, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Orangemike I have read the article "Conflict of interest". As you can see in the two small articles I have written my intentions are NOT to Spam or advertise by adding false info about the campuses. I am only adding basic and true information about the College. mycitycollege (talk) 19:50, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In other words, you are "editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with"! --Orange Mike | Talk 19:53, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By your own admission, you are primarily copy/pasting content from your own websites, which is not only a conflict of interest, but it does fall under the realm of self-advertisement. Wikipedia isn't here to mirror websites. If the individual campuses or the college as a whole is notable, someone else will create articles for them, who is not directly involved with the school. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 20:00, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Collectonian. I understand better now. So how can City College be added to Wikipedia? Thank you for your time mycitycollege (talk) 20:27, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A request can be made at Wikipedia:Requested articles. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:38, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) You could do a request for an article. I'll also try to take a look and see if I can put together a basic article for the university tonight or later this week. Just need to see the appropriate way to disambig the name from the current City College page. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 20:40, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see Orangemike. Thank you I am going to try that. Collectonian I appreciate your help. I'll follow your advise. I'll request an article to be made at your signal. Thank you guys for your time and for replying. mycitycollege (talk) 20:58, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have created an article for the school at City College (Florida). If you know of additional sources, such as newspaper articles about the school or sources listing basic info like enrollment numbers, please leave me a note here. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 03:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. When you get a chance please delete City College Orlando. When I create a new account I'll edit City College replacing "City College Fort Lauderdale" with "City College (Florida)". Can I add image and logo? Thank you. mycitycollege (talk) 14:44, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you can point me to the image/logo, I'd be happy to upload it and add it. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 14:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I had uploaded an image in the article deleted [here] The logo is here .gif format or .svg format. Thank you. mycitycollege (talk) 16:55, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I've added it to the article. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 17:27, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any chance of adding the logo to that small box on the right? Thank you mycitycollege (talk) 18:04, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, if you can point me to a place I can download it from. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 18:23, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if you still check this page but I thought I would toss in my 2 cents. You are welcome to create a new account (preferably one not related to an organization). As far as creating articles you are more than welcome to use the college's websites as references, but keep in mind that when you just copy and paste text it is copyright infringement. If you do want to continue creating articles for these colleges and have any problems/questions you can always leave a message on my talk page! Bvlax2005 (talk) 09:31, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Bvlax2005 I'll keep your offer in mind. mycitycollege (talk) 14:44, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do remember that your new account must still respect our rules about editing when you have a conflict of interest. As a rule, you should refrain from direct editing yourself (other than reverting actual vandalism); instead, make suggestions and offer sources on the talk page of the article(s) where you have the COI. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:00, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will remember. Thanks. mycitycollege (talk) 17:18, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I and collectiana seem to have been working on this at the same time--I instead rewrote the article City College Orlando to avoid the copyvio, and explained how to proceed on the article talk page. You can follow whichever approach you prefer. DGG (talk) 14:53, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DGG thank you for rewriting the article. If this one can be kept separately would be better. This campus is an affiliate only. They have a different board of directors. I know I've suggested/asked to be deleted but it makes sense to keep it separately for legal reasons if possible. Thank you again. mycitycollege (talk) 16:55, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Those are minor differences. Beyond that, they seem to be the same in terms of education, structure, etc, even their website is primarily a copy of the main City College website. I've expanded City College (Florida) to include a section on the affiliate that notes the differences. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 17:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are two different sites because they are an affiliate but that is OK. One article is less confusing. I appreciate your help. mycitycollege (talk) 17:18, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

possible merges[edit]

I agree with Collectian in that the best solution to these articles as a group might be a merge. DGG (talk) 16:43, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:City College Fort Lauderdale.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:City College Fort Lauderdale.jpg, which you've attributed to Gio. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 03:00, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
