Pinyin is the most common standard for representing Standard Mandarin in the Latin alphabet. For a complete description of pinyin, see pinyin.

The overall typing efficiency of Pinyin can be improved by simplifying Pinyin rules in a simple way:

(1) Any occurance of "ng" can be simplified as (simply) g; e.g., "tang" can be simplified as "tag".

(2) Any occurance of "iao" can be simplified as "io"(助记:衣凹腰); e.g., "tiao" can be simplified as "tio".

(3) Any occurance of "uang" can be simplified as "ug"(助记:乌肮汪),e.g., "huang" can be simplified as "hug".

This makes Chinese typing faster.

The improvement on Chinese typing efficiency can be demostrated at Online Chinese Typing.
