Politics[edit]

Yes I am going into the political world. Right now I am the Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party in my area. In the coming year I will be working with Congressman Harold Ford Jr. and his Senate bid. For 3 years now I have been pushing for an Al Gore Presidency, and during that time he has became a friend of mine. I have also worked and met with my Govenor, Phil Bredesen, Senator John Edwards, and many more. I plan to run for an office soon. Hopefully with the connections I am making with my work, it will pay off. I want to serve the people as best as possible while promoting the people's vision for America--the Democratic vision.

OK, I'll have a shot. Very glad to see you already lost the bit about encouraging students to persevere! Bishonen | talk 23:16, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Harro5, please see note on FAC. I hope you don't think I've killed the article, but of course my changes can easily be reverted. Great outtake from the lead! Now it's too short, though...;P
I think the division into sections could use some rethinking. They're very short (especially after what I did to them), which is negative in itself, and also makes the TOC overwhelming.
Good wikilinking practice: think international readers and what they actually need. Link Dux (I had no idea what that was). The existing Dux article is largely irrelevant, so please either write a stub or explain the concept briefly in the text. Avoid linking science, or the summer in summer holidays, as they don't lead anywhere relevant.
What's a "function centre"..? And what's an electrical fire? Best, Bishonen | talk 00:50, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC).

Hi, Harro5, I suppose what I was doing in removing detail (which was IMO trite and redundant) may have been to return the article to an earlier stage, before it was expanded beyond (again IMO) what it could support. I hope it didn't seem too destructive. The compromises that you and other people have been inserting today look good to me. I won't touch the music bits, I'm too ignorant, but those still look a little too detailed to me. (All schools of this kind do some of that stuff, don't they..?) Best, Bishonen | talk 28 June 2005 13:11 (UTC).

FAC[edit]

Dear Harro: Hello! Thanks for leaving your note on my talk page. I apologize for having three FAC candidates at the same time. I didnt know the rule. In three years here, basically all I have dedicated myself is to write, write and write, and ocassionally looking out for vandals, rading about topics I would normally really crae less about and fixing the ocassional typo.

I realize NOW that the articles probably wont be choosen, but I think we are just a few minor fixes away from having them featured, specially the two boxers. The Cerritos, California article I nominated it because I had never seen such an informative article about a city, regardless of what other contributors think that is unneccesary information such as the tourist centers. I do admit, however, upon further review that writing about tourist places does make it look like a brochure, lol.

Well, that said, I want to thank you agaon for your note, and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, your wiki-friend, Antonio Street Hole Martin

at first i thought you might have been a person i knew from several other websites. Gringo300 30 June 2005 08:56 (UTC)

I only mean not to have the article about a non-famous person at the moment as a featured article when the total number of featured articles was still low, and not meaning to delete all those articles about unfamous persons... That's just my own opinion. Deryck C. 2005-07-01 00:56:49 (UTC)

VfD/CSD[edit]

Hi, Harro 5. You're right, I don't think the current CSD criteria are adequate, and I've been following but not participating the discussion you mention. I understand it is likely to go to a vote in the next few days. That said, I'm not sure there was anything wrong in my VfD comment — and I reckon I won't be the only one who says so...-Splash July 2, 2005 00:15 (UTC)

Ok, well, at least we both think it should be gone! I'm sorry if you thought my comment was harsh toward you; it was more a criticism of the CFD rules than your decision to VfD (though my phrasing was fairly pointed). -Splash July 2, 2005 00:20 (UTC)

Hi, Harro, thanks very much for the flattery, I enjoyed it! :-) I think there's too much about the buildings altogether in the article. (I removed the Lindsay Thompson Centre and the Twin Halls at one point, I think, but they're back.) Or if not too much in number of words, then at least too much focus on the buildings. I'd really like to discuss some aspects like that with you in real time, rather than just go in and copyedit. If you're an IRCer, we could talk in #wikipedia, if you like—please drop me a line and let me know. Bishonen | talk 2 July 2005 13:58 (UTC)

Right...well, I wish I was more of a specialist, I wouldn't be there myself if my kid hadn't set me up. But what you need is this link: irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia, plus an IRC client, as it might be mIRC or xChat. Or, simplest to use, Chatzilla, but that's browser-dependent and only works with Mozilla or Firefox. Or so I believe... anyway, please have a shot, and we'll talk if it works out. I'm just about to sign off and go to bed now, though. My timezone is UTC +2, IOW it's 2 AM here. But most days I'm there, most of the time: if you say "bishonen" in channel, my computer will give me a shout. :-) Bishonen | talk 2 July 2005 23:57 (UTC)
No luck, I guess? Or else you've missed me. OK, I hope it works eventually, if only because IRC is a lot of fun, I think you'd enjoy it. :-) I'll try to check out the article and maybe do a bit of copyediting tomorrow. A thought: since pics of buildings are pretty much the only thing you can illustrate a school article with anyway, the image captions seem the obvious place for naming campuses and houses. The way they're mentioned in the text now is so emphatic, it sounds like the buildings are supposed to be the most interesting aspect of the school. A detail (an important one): I don't understand the bit about when the school went coed. If Wheelers Hill began as coed in 1981, then how could girls coming in in 1993 make Caulfield one of the coeducational schools? How wasn't it already? Also, could that paragraph emphasize the girls rather than the campuses? I wish there was more about the going coed altogether, though I don't know if there is any more to say. If you have any relevant detail about it at all (i. e., detail not about buildings)—say, oh, I don't know, recorded reactions among parents? Press comments?—do stick it in. Bishonen | talk 4 July 2005 00:26 (UTC)
Hi, Harro, the coed paragraph is much improved! Am I getting it right that the school's centenary in 1981 was marked by the first girls coming in? That's so neat! You say all the needful things about it, but I think the paragraph ought to open with—and thereby focus on— the *girls* and the centenary, not the house and the centenary. And end on the girls, too—keep the paragraph on that theme, don't disperse the impression. See what you think of my suggestion.
It's better that the Lindsay Thomson Centre paragraph is shorter, yes, but frankly I would take it out altogether. I wouldn't be surprised if it's that paragraph people have in mind when they say the article sounds too much like a school brochure. Old historic buildings have *some* general interest, but *projected* expensive-sounding buildings sound like purely a matter of the school being *rich*. And former premiers having attended the school, and now conducting ceremonies at it, that just sounds like it's been rich for quite some time. And those important football teams using the facilities: that doesn't say anything more than "they're very good facilities and we spent a lot on them", does it? That's not what I want to know (unless I'm sending my kids there). All the other paragraphs have something beyond that, even though the something is associated with a building: attendance growing, prestige rising, the school eating another school (Malvern), a reference to pupils who have died in the war, girls coming in, annual theatre productions—that's all good stuff. I took out those materialistic centres and halls further down, too, under the Arts, please check it out. Oh, the "student leadership" section is pretty, well, trite.
I'll think a little more about your question about supporting. (I just see your note now, good!) Bishonen | talk 5 July 2005 00:10 (UTC)
Hi, Harro, a little more: it worries me that the school has "approximately 3,500" pupils in the box, and only "over 2,500" in the text, please make consistent.
I have restructured and cooled the History some, moving the sentence about the only coed boarding school in the APS to the present time and merging paragraphs for a less choppy look. I took out the Memorial Hall—can't stand it—please see if you can find any way of re-inserting the pupils who died in the war, without the actual building!
I'm worried about the "one of the most prestigious schools" in 1958 thing, which remains. I don't want to take it out altogether, it's a valid point, but can you think of a "cooler" more neutral way of putting it? Bishonen | talk 5 July 2005 08:59 (UTC)
Yes, very good cooling of that point! Who cares that a VIP opened the Nanjing campus, though? That's what would happen. Gobbo is exactly what I would expect. Bishonen | talk 5 July 2005 09:13 (UTC)

Oappy[edit]

Just to say, it might be worth watching out for that IP user who created the article Oappy. He or she has just removed your VfD heading for it. Bobo192|Edits

Meh, I see you got it already. Cool.

Ami Isseroff[edit]

Dear Harro5,

I am the author of the Avshalom Feinberg article that you gratuitously trashed. I copied my own materials that I wrote from Zionism-Israel.com to Wikipedia. Then I found that you decided that I violated my own copyright. There is no copyright violation because all the original materials I post at that site may be copied with credit to the original.

Suppose I had not gone back to look at the entry by chance, and your trashing had remained?

Please in future be more considerate about the work of others.

I added the article because there is practically no information on the Web about this unsung hero of the Jewish resistance - I looked.

I have tried to help Wikipedia but instead, thanks to you, I had to waste time restoring the work that you trashed. Whatever posessed you to trash the article without bothering to read the original?

I have no way to remove the spurious copyright violation complaint that you initiated. I don't understand the ins and outs of Wikipedia.

Caulfield IV[edit]

Hi, Harro, getting there! You've done a great job with this article. But the more I think about it, the more I'd like to see "Academics" with a clearer structure, especially for an international reader. I mean, these distinctions, made in two diffferent ways (first between primary and senior, then between, uh, Primary (is it?), Middle, and VCE), are self-evident to you—both which actual years are involved, and other things—but I had to sherlock the whole section to figure it out (still not sure I got it right). It's not a universal system or terminology. So, the years are middle 7-9, VCE 10-12 (although, adding a thorn for the ignorant reader, they're also described in another way: middle school years 7-8, year 9 transitional, VCE 10-12). Right..?

Oh, no, just realized I don't have it right—it says in another place that "Years 7 through 9 are referred to as part of the middle school". Ouch. Is that an error?

Anyway, the years need to be clearer, also easier to find.

Also, I'd really like to see a chronologically straightened-out structure of the section. I suggest first a general intro, with any overall info in it (plus also mentioning what little there is to say about primary school), then three named sections, middle school and VCE and the virtual campus (the third isn't a problem). I've done a suggestion to show you how I mean, but please note that it's bound to contain misunderstandings on my part, maybe big ones. It's definitely going to need some rewriting, but I like the structure—see if you agree.

I took out the whole sentence about class sizes. It did sound more like information to parents, and also they're very normal, unremarkable sizes, for comparable-type schools. (And furthermore there was no good place for it. ;-)) Bishonen | talk 6 July 2005 07:08 (UTC)

Caulfield V[edit]

Greatly improved the POV content of the article. I've given it a detailed read and here are a few minor gripes I still find dubious:

  • Caulfield offers students a wide range of subjects. POV
  • Caulfield Grammar offers a wide range of activities for students to participate in. POV
  • The number of girls attending Caulfield increased quickly after 1993, and currently girls make up around 45% of the student body, and are represented equally in all activities including leadership. Nothing wrong with this per se, but I'm curious about what is meant by "leadership" as an activity, and why it is important to stress that girls are equally represented in it (rather than making the same stress for say, basketball).

When these minor gripes are addressed I will have no hesitation about reversing my vote. Thanks a lot for your patience and hard work with improving this article! --Malathion 6 July 2005 10:15 (UTC)

To clarify, what I don't like about the wide range statements is that they appear to be a favorable judgment about the, well, wideness of the range of subjects offered. It would seem to be better NPOV to simply outline or list the offered subjects and let the reader decide if it is wide or not. --Malathion 6 July 2005 10:27 (UTC)

Looks good. I'm reversing my vote now. Thanks again for your patience with all these nagging objections! But I think this has dramatically improved the quality of the article. Good job. --Malathion 6 July 2005 10:41 (UTC)

I've submitted it to FAC; thanks for all your invaluable help and encouragement. If you ever need any help, just send me a message. Deltabeignet 5 July 2005 22:01 (UTC)

Hi Harro5, I have a suggestion for you at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Steve Reich (Army). I'd like to see it merged into Casualties of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. That way it gets around the "he isn't notable by himself" argument but still stays in Wikipedia. (For more details, see my comment in the VfD.) --Idont Havaname 5 July 2005 23:20 (UTC)

Hey there[edit]

Sorry if I sounded a little harsh on your RfA page; I really didn't mean to (or I wouldn't have voted support). I think you do some really good work, and I didn't comment so much on it because you have no need to improve it! Anyways, I hope you make it.--Scimitar 6 July 2005 14:40 (UTC)

Hong Kong[edit]

I wonder if you'll re-summarize your concerns about the Hong Kong article in FAC. Deryck C.

verses[edit]

Hiya,

you recently voted on a vfd concerning Matthew 2:16

however, a proposal by User:Uncle G covers a much larger group of verses.

would you be prepared to make a vote at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Individual Bible verses, which covers the full list of verses in Uncle G's suggestion?

Hey, Hong Kong has been shortened some, with more sections summarized, since you objected it was too long. Perhaps you'd be interested in taking a look and seeing if you still want to vote oppose on the ground of length? Best, Bishonen | talk 16:05, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just have to say, "rv breast vandal" may be one of the funnier edit summaries ever. :) tregoweth 06:18, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

Did You Know[edit]

Why did you overwrite Did You KNow with the sort of thing that's meant to be on the daily featured pic section? You might want to revert your changes. Harro5 06:19, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

  • Actually that was the work of MacGyverMagic, who's sort of in charge of DYK, following some discussion at Talk:Main Page (which you might want to check out). I only changed the wording/presentation.--Pharos 06:37, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's all so clear now :). Harro5 06:48, July 16, 2005 (UTC)
      • You'll forgive my brevity; I've linked the relevant pages in my above message for convenience. The Talk:Main Page discussion has really been the impetus behind this.--Pharos 06:56, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • To expand on that. I've changed it for the weekends because there's to few items for a text update and several people said they'd like featured images on the main pages. Having it here for the weekend is a compromise. - Mgm|(talk) 07:57, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

You are receiving this notice due to a consideration that has come up during a VFD for the article Comunleng. As there was no clear consensus in Comunleng's previous VfD, it has been nominated again. thanks for supporting me[edit]

Hello, just a quick note to express my gratitude for your support of my RfA. I'm sure I'll become a familiar face on places like the Administrator's Noticeboard and Requests for Adminship, as well as the murkier parts of my new job. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48, NIV) Never was a truer word spoken. I feel empowered, yes, but not in the "oooh cool delete button!" way I was kind of expecting. Already I feel the weight of the responsibility I have now been entrusted with, a weight that will no doubt reduce given time. Thank you for believing in me. :) GarrettTalk 10:01, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please be more careful about applying speedy deletion tags. I fail to see why that stub should be deleted. El_C 23:43, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for that mistake[edit]

Hey, Harro5. My post in the Bush talk page was not about rallying my cause. (Which wasnt my cause anyway, somebody else added my vote there.) It is a pity it came out that way. I apologise for having annoyed you. By the way, what grade in high school are you in? I am a South African high school student and would be most happy to assist in any articles. Thanks. Chicago, IL FAC[edit]

Hi, I was wondering why you moved Chicago to the archived section of the FAC list. The discussion on the page is still live, as there have been 2 more support votes since it was moved and work is being done to address to the objections, I had even responded to one of them today before realizing you had ended the voting. If we could have more time to work out the further objections it would be very much appreciated. Thanks, --Gpyoung talk 21:21, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
