Plane crash

Hi there. You moved Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 to Afriqiyah Airways Flight BU771, however, sources, such as the airline's own website, show that it was Flight 8U771. Would you mind having a look? Cheers! Jared Preston (talk) 08:23, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh, two people were quicker than me... Jared Preston (talk) 08:24, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

This is

Really getting ridiculous. I seriously do not endorse quarreling like this, but accusing me of what? I don't know whether I should really laugh or be angry? Or is this a real showcase of good faith? --Legolas (talk2me) 10:45, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, per policy, he's entitled to remove what he wants from his talk page (with the exception of declined unblock requests for the duration of the block he's inching towards). Let me have a look at the rest. Best advice I can give is to disengage (go and make all those tedious little fixes to Madge) and let me deal with it. Semi protection

Could you semi protect Nick Clegg it seems to have got unprotected after full protection yesterday and is simply suffering repeated IP vandalism? Off2riorob (talk) 12:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

I'd rather leave it for a little bit- I'm watching it very closely and any vandal should just be reported or blocked on sight with that editnotice in place. I just blocked one IP for a few hours for making a nuisance of himself, so we'll see how it goes. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:38, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

What took you so long? There is no benefit to allowing a BLP to be vandalized repeatedy by uncomfirmed accouts under the proviso that it is watched and we can watch them and block them, it is disruptive to the wikipedia and to the BLP in particular, simple semi protection alleviates the issue. Cameron is long term semi protected as was brown. Anyway thanks.Off2riorob (talk) 14:08, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey HJ, what do you think about putting Tasmania on semi-protect? It's been vandalised a bit since it got unlocked, which I dare say as a mainland Australian, am not surprised to see. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 12:50, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm keeping an eye on it. I'll probably protect it later on since I'm not seeing any constructive IP edits, but we'll see. :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Cheers mate. JRA_WestyQld2 Talk 12:59, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Diego.

Am I wrong in understanding Diego Grez? [[http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Village_pump&diff=38899152&oldid=38898193}} I was under the understanding he wasn't allowed to post to boards like this. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 13:31, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

I've no authority on what he does on Commons. The restrictions that have under my mentorship only apply to en.wiki. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:33, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
That's quite odd considering that some of the most disruptions have been from the commons but thank you for clarifying. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 13:37, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, so far as I know, the only restrictions have to do with en.WP, not commons. What disruptions have there been at/from commons? Gwen Gale (talk) 13:39, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm talking in the past but the Piss on me Elmo, and I also believe there had ben some copyright issues if memory serves/ Like I say I'm not going to push the issue as it isn't my realm it just wasn't how I understood the sanctions. It happens I was only commenting not urging a action. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 13:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
The piss-on-elmo happened on enwiki. He did upload copyright violations to Commons before he got blocked sevral months ago. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 13:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, anything he does on en.wiki is my problem, everything he does on any other wiki is someone else's if you want to look at it that way. He couldn't make a post like that here (just for clarification) but there's nothing in his en.wiki restrictions to stop him doing so on Commons, though if it violates Commons policies, Commons admins might want to deal with it. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:47, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Since you've been so much help, I think you should know it's still me and not an imposter! N419BH 02:02, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Need a referral, please

Since you're the only admin I "know", and one of the few experienced users, I'm hoping you can just refer me to someone to take a look at a situation having to do with category hierarchy, and help either fix what I may have messed up or continue to fix what I was trying to, as applicable. An editor seems to have been massively adding categories to articles (articles to categories?) for at least the last few days. Many of the newly added categories are hierarchical "children" of categories already associated with the article, which I understand to be improper. I started undoing/deleting/neutralizing a few of the changes in one hierarchy, but soon decided some of the relationships were either complex or questionable, so I'm not sure if I helped or hurt the situation. I'm not asking for any administrative action, but possibly the name of one or two editors known for expertise in categorization who I can ask to review the situation and make recommendations. If my explanation is unclear, you can check the history of the article Caddo, as well as immediately subsequent edits on my edit history, to see what I'm referring to. Thanks... Fat&Happy (talk) 02:02, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, the person I'd normally run to with questions like that is on holiday atm, but give me some time and hopefully I'll be able to find someone else- the category namespace is the only place I spend less time than the template namespace! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 04:15, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, thx. It's nothing really urgent, so I can wait. I'm in a similar situation with templates and categories; not sure which is less – it's like the difference between one nanosecond per day vs. two... Fat&Happy (talk) 04:25, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Just a note

Just thinking loud - we elect some admins and something is getting done. I can forget about the main page and AIV board and do other things which I've never had time for. (I guess it is a compliment - keep up good work). Materialscientist (talk) 05:20, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

3rr warning to 98.248.59.58

Hi, RE: Talk:Anwar_al-Awlaki#Wikilink_-_Targeted_killing and your edit war warning to my talk page. I've actually been staying away from the dispute over assasination vs targeted killing as I reverted that twice. My new issue is using their word, and wikilinking it as it is first instance. Why someone wants to keep blanking a wikilink first instance is beyond me, but I'll leave it cool for now. It seems like a room full of book burners there. 98.248.59.58 (talk) 05:57, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

It does seem a strange thing to edit war over, but I've seen stranger. As long as the reverting stops, I'm happy so just use the talk page and hopefully hash the matter out there. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 06:15, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Revisionism of the meaning of a word I think - I can think of no other reason to twice blank wikilink first instance, but then I'm a party. I requested on Talk:Assassination that they weigh in at Talk:Anwar_al-Awlaki as they have already tackled and included the question at hand "Is Targeted killing = Assasination?". For now I am staying in talk only. 98.248.59.58 (talk) 06:21, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
  • and i'm backing out totally. The POV is exposed by their own attempts to break the wikilink on the destination end, and I'm not editing the articles anymore - just talk. 98.248.59.58 (talk) 07:14, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Peer review of a biography?

Hello, I saw your name on a list of peer review volunteers, and am wondering if you might be able to give me a quick peer review on the biographical article Barbara Kingsolver. The BiographyWiki page indicates that they don't like to work on articles below B-class, and the article was C-class when last assessed (although improvements have been made since then). Just a few pointers would be incredibly helpful, as I've never worked on a biography before; I usually stick to science articles! It seems like you're an incredibly busy editor/admin, so I understand if you don't think this is a good use of your time, but even a few suggestions would be most appreciated. If it's convenient for you, could you possibly leave your response on my talk page? Thank you, in advance, for your time. Jhfortier (talk) 05:09, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I'll reply on your talk page later on (this is more of a note to self!). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 05:41, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. Whenever you get the chance to respond would be great. Jhfortier (talk) 05:37, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Matt57's block

My comment was in no way intended to be a criticism of either the block or the blocking admin, by the way - and I'm well aware of the hypocrisy of someone declining to step up to the RfA plate, and then apparently criticising the very admin who made the suggestion ;-)

Matt57 is clearly frustrated with swearing by other editors, and has - unfortunately - now resorted to swearing to make a point. I feel this may be lost amongst the noise of ANI and its participants (myself included).

Cheers, TFOWRThis flag once was red 14:21, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Matt57 has requested an unblock, citing other editors' comparable - in his view - behaviour. I continue to think this is pointy, and I think a block for being pointy would be more effective than a block for swearing or attacking other editors - precisely because Matt57's point is about swearing and attacks. Tell me to bugger off, though! Cheers, TFOWRThis flag once was red 14:27, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
  • I can sympathise with his point, but frankly, that comment was bang out of order and the pattern, for example, the whole Giano thing today is equally out of order, which is why I blocked him. If he wants to point out recent, actionable personal attacks by other editors, I may well block them, but "other people do it" is not good enough for me to contemplate unblocking. That said, you're welcome to continue the ANI thread or formally request an admin action review in a new section and I'll defer to whatever consensus emerges. Thanks for stopping by anyway, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:37, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Oh, I completely disagree with the unblock request (which has been declined, anyway) - for exactly the reasons you give - the original "offending" editor was dragged over the coals at ANI yesterday, and the clear consensus was that there was nothing actionable. (And, to be honest, I'd missed the whole Giano thing...) My only concern with the block was the reasoning (which you've now explained), not with the block itself. Apologies for being a backseat-admin! Cheers, TFOWRThis flag once was red 14:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
  • No worries :). I meant what I said though- I welcome review of the block at ANI and if a diff can be provided to show another editor recently making personal attacks like that, I'm not afraid to block them for it. On his unblock request, he should focus on what in that diff and his pattern of behaviour was so egregious that a mild mannered admin such as I felt that a block was necessary to prevent further damage to the project (as opposed to the perceived crimes of others). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:48, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for bringing that to my attention (though I've seen at least one of those diffs before). Unfortunately a block now would appear to be purely punitive, rather than preventative, but I'll warn Giano and keep an eye on the matter. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 08:40, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
  • I dropped by to inform you that I have reponded to your post on my page [1]. I see now,I had not realised that was a "warning" well no matter - the reply would be just the same. If people wish to continue this by making repeated and ridiculous allegations of personal attack, then I am more than happy to continue defending myself. The fact that one party feels they have Jimbo's ear and support will not deflect me in the slightest. So, I feel in the intersts of peace and harmony that these people would be wise to drop their allegations now. Unless challenged, I sahll say no more on this matter.  Giano  13:43, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Article Writing

Hey Hj, for once I'm not here about the Qatar Ip hopper :p. I was looking through my old RFA as I usually do at some point in the day and I noticed concerns about my article experience came up. With me just adopting a user, I figured now would be a good time to help improve that and teach it as I go. I was wondering if you could give me any pointers to get to my first DYK. Mostly I have trouble finding sources...Much respect,--SKATER Speak. 01:53, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I can help if HJ is willing to let me :) I have about 20 DYK's and 19 GA's of which a good 5 were written from scratch. Now what would you like to write about?--White Shadows you're breaking up 02:04, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I welcome the help- WS is a much better content editor than I am, despite the pretty row of icons on my userpage. The best thing to do is find a subject that interests you but whose article is in a complete mess. Biographies are by far the easiest to write, for example I brought Lily Cole up from this to what it is now (if you peruse my recognised content and top edited articles, you'll find pretty actresses are a recurring theme!). So, what interests you? Finding an article with the foundations already laid for you to bring up to GA or even FA is probably easier than writing one from scratch (though I have written 1 GA from scratch). Just one tip, though- don't write something because you want to pass an RfA, do it because you enjoy it. So go off and find yourself an article on something (or preferably someone) that genuinely interests you and then do some research. Find all the refs you can and throw them at it (I'll copyedit it for you later if you want). Let me know when you've got one and WS and I can provide pointers! Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:53, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, guess I could work on Serj Tankian I'm a pretty big fan and that article could use a lot of sources.--SKATER Speak. 13:37, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Good choice- it doesn't look like there are any editors actively maintaining the article, so you shouldn't face ownership issues and if there's enough material on him, there could be a potential GA there. I suggest trawling Google News (and its archives) first to find some material. Then, depending on your style of writing, you might want to create a subpage to store material or just add it in as you find it and worry about tidying it up later (you can use {{underconstruction}} to warn readers if you're doing it that way). Have fun ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:47, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
On it, thanks for your help! Side note, think I'm gonna have to revert back to the old Wikipedia, the new buttons aren't working on IE.--SKATER Speak. 13:59, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I already have! I like my admin buttons where they are! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:02, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Now I remember why my article creations and work is so limited, the frustration of sources. So far I've found about three good ones, and rewrote the early life section. The "Soil and System of a Down" section needs a major rewrite, and I'm probably going to get rid of Soil entirely as it's not really a notable band. Any suggestions so far?--SKATER Speak. 14:50, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
You get used to it. I had that problem when I wrote Tim Cross and then the opposite problem (plenty of "information" but lots of chaff to separate from the wheat) when I re-wrote Lindsay Lohan. I'd keep some of the stuff on Soil since it seems to have precipitated System of a Down, but the section reads more like a history of the bands than a biography- it should focus more on his part in it. Let me know if you need anything else, but I'm over on Wikinews atm but you can always ping me over there. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:34, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

jackpot!--SKATER Speak. 15:58, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Nice! Always a good feeling when you find that one incredibly useful source you've been looking for! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:00, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
'tis. I believe I've done a well enough job rewriting the early life section and would be thankful if you would mind taking a look when you have a chance.--SKATER Speak. 16:25, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Could you read this section and add your two cents if any? You protected the page and gave me a warning for edit-warring, which was completely unjustified so I took it off. I just wondered if you have anything to clear up about this, or any advice about the article. ×××BrightBlackHeaven(talk)××× 17:43, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

ANI

Resolved-ish.
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

I opposed your RFA doe to judgement concerns. Did you need to prove me right so soon?--Cube lurker (talk) 18:17, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

How have you been proven right? Aiken 18:27, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Please see his post in the ani. Even suggesting that Giano broke 3rr and deserved a block for reverting harassment on his own talk page is frightening.--Cube lurker (talk) 18:32, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
  • FWIW, I tend to agree with AniMate here. You've set a land-speed record for the elapsed time from successful RFA to block of fellow administrator. Probably would have been best to leave something this nuanced to a more senior admin. –xenotalk 19:41, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
    • It's not something I take any pleasure in at all, but if it weren't for the fact that the blocked party was an administrator, someone else would have blocked him for 3RR long before I got to that thread and I strongly believe that admins should not be above policy (myself included). As for Giano, I'm probably one of a very small number of editors who has some knowledge of the history (though not a complete knowledge by any means) and has no opinion on it. I appreciate your advice, though, really. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:49, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
      • But as far as I can tell, there was no 3RR... Tbsdy lives was adding net new threads that were being deleted by the host. Now I'm not saying that it is acceptable to continue to post new messages when the user clearly doesn't want you posting to their page, but 3RR it ain't. –xenotalk 19:52, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
        • I'd say it is. Maybe my interpretation is slightly more liberal than that of others, but adding "hahaha", having it removed and replacing it with "lol", rinse, repeat, and replace it with "ROFL" is, in my opinion at least, reverting. I have no comment on the nature of the posts themselves but to repeatedly post the same thing after its removal is (again, my opinion, I leave it to consensus to determine how valid that is) edit warring. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:02, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
          • Fair enough. And, granted, your block rationale was "Edit warring or...". –xenotalk 20:04, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Can you explain your original comment that Giano could be blocked for 3rr?--Cube lurker (talk) 20:06, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
    • I was mistaken. We all make mistakes. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:10, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
      • Did you correct that mistake?--Cube lurker (talk) 20:13, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
        • Any better? I struck my remark. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:17, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
          • Better. One other thing though. Here's a hint. When we falsely accuse someone of violating policy we say....--Cube lurker (talk) 20:19, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
            • Are we really goading people on their talk pages because of comments made on a discussion about goading on talk pages? Let the carcass lie. Shubinator (talk) 20:22, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
              • It's alright, Shub, unlike me, he's right! :) I've apologised to Giano. Now we can let it lie, I hope. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:24, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
              • I have let my tone move in a sub-par direction. For that I too am sorry.--Cube lurker (talk) 20:28, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
                • No need to be, you were right! However, this is taking up a lot of room on a very busy page and I don't think there's much to be gained from discussing it further, so I hope you don't mind if I collapse it. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:30, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

HJ, it was a pleasant surprise running into you on In The News today, (Although that is kinda your thing and I should have expected it). I was then curious what you have been up to since you became an admin, and stumbled across the following about your handling of the United Kingdom general election, 2010.

I'm very curious to know what exactly the edit-notice is/was and how it works. Thanks! --Aalox (talk) 01:11, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I've deleted it now, since it's outlived its use, but I'll undelete and move it somewhere so you can see it, it's nothing special really. As for how it works, only admins and account creators can create them, except for you own user and talk pages. If you want one like mine for your talk page, WP:EDITNOTICE has the instructions and the code for mine is at user talk:HJ Mitchell/Editnotice, but it's protected in case any vandal decides to mess around with it. I'll restore the election editnotice and stick it somewhere if you want to see it. Nice to hear from you, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:30, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes but nobody cares to even bother opposing this type of thing. It has 2 supports if you count the nominator, an article is ready and the only hesitation after several days comes from someone who has a very general question. What more can we expect? Dozens of people have been sacked, suspended, killed, injured or vanished into thin air. That's quite an a achievement and a great variety of occurrences. :D:D:D:D:D:D --candlewicke 01:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Well you're welcome to unprotect it if you wish. That's what it says in my editnotice- I'm not territorial over my admin actions so I'll defer to your best judgement. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Autoreviewer.

Hello again. Before I was blocked for the first time, I got autoreviewer because I have created a lot of articles. Do you think that, after the restrictions end, will I get that right again? :) --Diego Grez let's talk 16:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I think you should wait til your restrictions are lifted at the very least before thinking about that. In my experience around WP:PERM though, it's not as easy tog et as it used to be. Besides, given what we discussed by email the other day, why would you need it? It doesn't do a lot (though I must admit I quite like having it, even if I don;t create many articles!). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Heh. Ok. :) By the way, would you mind copyediting my WN article before it becomes stale :) /me don't wants to lose 5 hours of work :) --Diego Grez let's talk 17:12, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
On a related note - HJ Mitchell, how goes your review of Diego's proposed improvements at User:Diego Grez/Pichilemu? It would be a good idea to history merge these into the article proper ahead of the community discussion in June reviewing the restrictions. –xenotalk 17:16, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
In an unrelated matter, how is getting Autoreviewer hard to obtain? I managed to receve it a few months ago when I had only created just about 20 articles.--White Shadows you're breaking up 00:09, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I've created 141 and some more in my userspace. --Diego Grez let's talk 01:01, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Good job. However Autoreviewer does'nt do much. It just takes a load off of the NPPers.--White Shadows you're breaking up 01:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

You full-protected it. I only requested semi-protection. ~NerdyScienceDude () 23:52, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I've already reduced it- I hit the wrong button with Twinkle, that's all. Why do you have your archives protected, anyway? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:53, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
There's no need for IPs to edit those pages. Just me and the archive bot. ~NerdyScienceDude () 00:04, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Could you do the same with my archives? :) --Diego Grez let's talk 01:03, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

What should I do with this guy? I know that he made some very bad choices and may never be able to be unblocked but I feel sorry for him....--White Shadows you're breaking up 23:54, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I don't know. The socking was stupid, but an instant indef may be a little harsh. I'd like a CU to comment on any further accounts, but if there aren't any, if it were "my" block (and no, I'm not wheel warring with an arb, not even for you! (; ) I'd probably reduce it to the end of the most recent RfA he voted in, but it's not and I'm reluctant to stick my nose in where it's not wanted. There's nothing wrong with assuming good faith, though (well, some will disagree on that!). The best thing to do is keep talking to him since you seem to have a connection. If he's yanking your chain, it'll be clear soon enough. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:07, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Alright then. (If I had a mop, I would not unblock yet either) I'll keep talking and If he is playing me like a fiddle, I'll soon find out. However so far I'm inclined to at least feel sympathy for him (I was blocked for socking a long time ago if you may recall, though under non-contraversial circumstances)--White Shadows you're breaking up 00:11, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
What is it with socks? I've been dealing with them all day! Just take a look at WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Zealking- now he is yanking peoples' chains, but his lack of imagination is quite amusing! Now, I need sleep. Zzzzzzzzz. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:16, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Request for your opinion

Sorry to draw you away from "serius admin biznis", but I have an interesting situation that I would like an experienced opinion about. I have several talk page stalkers and we generally have ongoing discussions on my talk page about various things, mostly WP related. While our discussions are chatty on occasion, we all work too. User:Lawlar (with whom I have had no interaction) came by and deleted an entire discussion that he deemed myspacing. He did this to User:Mono also. Mono is a new addition to my tps's and has engaged in behavior I deem immature, but I do not believe that Lawlar's mass deletion was warranted. Lawlar also left a warning for Mono which I think sounds very knowledgeable for a new user. All of his edits are from today. Please tell me what you think. Thank you, PrincessofLlyr royal court 15:51, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I did indeed. I saw him on your talk page and had my finger on the button before you even got the AIV report off! He can;t complain- he's obviously had plenty of warnings! On a side note, I think I just declined one of your RPP requests. I got your email :). I'll reply when i have some time on my hands! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:31, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
You did too! Haha I actually thought it was more than 1 IP vandalising the page or I wouldn't have reported it. Never mind, maybe the others will run and hide once they realise their mate has been blocked. I think the guy missed a goal shot during a football game tonight, not too sure though, up on the Scottish football not the English! The vandals are rife tonight though --5 albert square (talk) 22:45, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
It's not as bad as the other day, but AIV's been pretty steady from what I've seen. I've been on and off RPP most of the day- I quite like it there and it gets backed up frequently. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:49, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I quite like it on there too. At the minute I'm just chilling editing with Huggle and watching The Bill whilst trying not to fall asleep. Speaking of The Bill I'd expect more vandalism to the page next month as they're due to finish filming at the start to middle of June :( :( :( --5 albert square (talk) 23:11, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Why the closure?

I was wondering why you've just closed the arbitration enforcement request I filed? Where do we go from here? -- ChrisO (talk) 01:16, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I think the appropriate thing is to box / close the AN3 discussion but leave the enforcement discussion open, personally... Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 01:18, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
I think the forum shopping should stop and those involved should discuss their grievances on the talk page or risk finding themselves blocked. As for AE/ANEW, I've no opinion- if something productive might come out of leaving the AE open, then by all means revert me. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:20, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
The reason I filed an enforcement request in the first place is because BLP has been systematically violated. The editors in question simply don't accept that there's any BLP issue. It needs outside review and enforcement. Essentially this is about a fringe POV being pushed by a small group of Israel-Palestine editors against the consensus of all the uninvolved editors who've commented on this issue - they're attempting to rewrite well-documented South African history on the basis of modern-day Israeli-Palestinian conflict politics. I've already written thousands of words on the BLP/N and the talk page explaining these issues, only to be ignored and to see basic BLP requirements like sourcing simply being rejected. There's been no forum-shopping - I removed problematic material, took the issue to the BLP/N as required by WP:BLP, and then raised an arbitration enforcement request when I saw that BLP was being repeatedly violated by Israel-Palestine partisans. -- ChrisO (talk) 01:25, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
It's getting outside attention. There is no emergency here- the article is fully protected which means nobody can edit it. I will deal with enforcement and BLP concerns in the morning. That said, if GWH or any other admin wishes to do so, they may freely override anything I've done or said so far because I'm going to be now. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:28, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, fair point, and thanks for stepping up to deal with the issues that have been raised. I'm off to bed too. -- ChrisO (talk) 01:31, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
I stayed up a bit longer. :-) I've added a summary of the BLP issues as I see them under your comment at Talk:Richard Goldstone#Locked. Hope you find it helpful in working out how to tackle this one. -- ChrisO (talk) 02:00, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Just a note of thanks for stepping in to referee the article. This sort of thing is a thankless job but appreciated just the same. — e. ripley\talk 14:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

FYI, the other editor seems to be behaving oddly. Note that the IPs are almost certainly the editor kushsinghmd (they are all from McGill Univ or Canada) and mootros is trying to keep the IP at bay. You may want to reconsider the decline. --RegentsPark (talk) 16:57, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

As far as I can work out, all the IPs are doing is changing MD and PhD to Medical Doctor and Doctor of Philosophy, but peraps I'm missing something in the history? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:01, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
It's really the same guy who's mucking around with Research Associate. If you look at the talk page, he/she had a tiff with other editors and seems to be starting some kind of campaign on the articles. At this point, since he/she is using many IPs and not the original name, I'd say it's disruptive. We can't possibly block McGill University, so it may be easier to protect the articles. --RegentsPark (talk) 17:05, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Unblocking

Hi! Just a heads up that it's usually a good idea to let other admins handle unblock requests from accounts which you've blocked (like this guy). This one wasn't really a big deal, since he was an obvious vandal, blaming everyone else in sight, etc. Just a "for future reference" type thing. If you have any questions, please drop me a line. Warning IP's about vandalism

Hi, I applied for rollback rights and you suggested before recieving them I should install Twinkle (which I have done) and also warn IP's when I revert one of their edits I was wondering if there was a template that I could find for this and thought you might be able to point me in the right direction. Also you suggested I make reports to WP:AIV I was wondering how many times a user or IP should be warned before I do this? Thanks in advance Tubby23 (talk) 11:49, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
