promotional images & the Atego[edit]

Mate, can you avoid the use of fair use images of trains please? I know you've only use a couple but there are enough trainphotters out there (especially at fotopic) who let you use their images under the GFDL if you ask them nicely.

Also, do you know the source of image:Atego.jpg which. Images from Commons can be put directly into pages -- you don't need to copy them over but you do need to give credit and licensing information (which you've inadvertently failed to do in this case). — Dunc| 15:33, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Fair enough - I've recopied the Atego info - I'll try and get a better photo at some point - as for the trains - I'll leave the promo stuff alone :) --Enotayokel 20:11, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Hello! I noticed that Fleet railway station doesn't have any references or sources. Although the contents of that article do seem like "common knowledge", it would still be helpful if you could mention your sources. Many thanks, Lupin|talk|popups 03:03, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Budleigh Salterton.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Greater Western[edit]

It is curious — some of the references to the sectorisation on First’s web site seem to have vanished, but it was clearly announced by them and by the Department for Transport when the franchise was granted, so I think it should stay in unless we find a clear explanation of a change to the decision (or, of course, if 1 April and the new livery come around and everything is still marked ‘First Great Western’). As you are a significant contributor to UK railway related articles, I am just making sure you are aware of the proposed naming convention for articles on UK railway stations at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations). Thryduulf 00:19, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish Question[edit]

You may be aware that there has recently been a dispute about whether the {{British TOCs}} template should include Northern Irish train operators. In order to gain consensus and move forward there is currently a discussion about whether the scope of the template should be Great Britain or the United Kingdom. You have previously commented on this tempate but have not yet made any remarks in the latest discussion. If you would like to express your opinion please do so at Template talk:British TOCs#The Irish Question - What is the scope of this template?. Thryduulf 21:50, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:FGWEnew.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FGWEnew.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image:Newcolours2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Newcolours2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Fair use disputed for Image:ScotRaillogo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ScotRaillogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ACBest 09:06, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Class 159 NSE Diagram.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Class 159 NSE Diagram.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. Class 159 Brand Name[edit]

Dear Enotayokel, I have today asked South West Trains the question of the brand name for the Class 159. My question was as follows:

Have the Class 159 ever been known or been given the nickname ‘Wessex Turbo’ during their lives, and were they known as ‘South West Turbo’ or is it ‘South Western Turbo’? Posted by Peter Skuce 25/02/2010

Answer: The class 159 trains were introduced in 1992 and had the name Wessex Turbo.

You can find this on the webpage: <http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/archive.aspx?p=2>

So I do not know how or where do the branding 'South Western Turbo' came about if British Rail Network SouthEast branded the trains as 'Wessex Turbo'.

Regards, --Peter Skuce (talk) 18:09, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply, however why have I heard BOTH 'South West Turbo' and 'South Western Turbo'? Is it just plain WEST or is it WestERN? Yet I have seen Class 159 in Network SouthEast livery displaying 'Wessex Turbo' branding around 1997-1999, I can't be lying.

Image left right[edit]

Hi. Actually having right-left-right-left alternating images actually helps - especially for image heavy articles with short sections as British Rail Class 153

here it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Picture_tutorial#Alternating_left_and_right

(People with sub-notebook resolution are going to have issues anyway.. - I usually check down to about 500pixels wide)

The other alternative is to use {{-}} (a sort of section break) - it does nothing if there is no image 'overflow', but if there is image overflow it can help keep the article together. Here's an example of it in action http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_rail_in_Turkey#High-speed_train_sets_and_production_facilities I try to avoid using it, but sometimes it really is necessary.

Otherwise keep up the good work. (I'll fix BR Class 153) Shortfatlad (talk) 22:04, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gallery Images[edit]

Please can you STOP changing the image galleries! I have spent alot of time last autumn uploading my images and then revamping Wikipedia. Why do you take a strong dislike to my work?

Why can't you be grateful for me submitting the images and information that I have sent? Why do you change the galleries without informing anyone?

Who wants to see a front end with coupler or a wheelset from a Pacer?

I would welcome COMMUNICATION - Not silence.
