I made a mistake in uploading this file. Cimbali (talk) 13:09, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

First and foremost, I would like to apogolgize for having used the company name as my username. I did not know that this was unacceptable by WP. I have printed the Cimbali page to inform people interested in the specialty coffee industry about Cimbali - an industry pioneer. I would kindly like the ability to appeal this block so I can change my username to something more appropriate. I have also posted a message on the Cimbali page concerning the fact that it has been signaled as an advertisement. This is not my intention, and if given the opportunity, I would like some assistance so I can make the page more acceptable. I understand that WP is a neatrual source of information - unlike a company's website, however, this is my first time using WP and I am trying to learn. Looking forward to hearing from someone. Thank you.

Decline reason:

You are blocked for inappropriate editing with a conflict of interest. The username issue is also a problem, but it is secondary. You need to carefully read over Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Business' FAQ before you request unblocking again. Mangojuicetalk 19:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Are you, or are you not, affiliated with Cimbali? If not, why did you pick this username? And, if you are allowed to change usernames, what username would you pick? Mangojuicetalk 15:43, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am affiliated with Cimbali. I was unaware that this could be a problem. I would probably pick csalierno as my new username. --Cimbali (talk) 16:41, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand WP considers this to be a conflict of interest. However, given I am affiliate of Cimbali, I would think I could provide a most accurate account of the company's history. At any rate, seeing as I cannot afford to change my "day job" in order to write a WP article on the company I work with, I must leave the development of the Cimbali page to your more neutral authors. Thank you. --Cimbali (talk) 06:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
