Blocked[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 17:53, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My apologies, but I hadn't appreciated that my choice of the name of the small hobby business I run would be construed as using WikipediA as a method of promoting sales. The edits that I had posted which were links to pages displaying images of books by Bessie Marchant and Miss Read are not books for sale but are intended to act as visual Bibliograpies for other collectors. The scans/photographs used are of books from my own collections together with contributions from another collector, which have taken many years to put together. If I am unblocked I would like to continue adding information to sites relating to forgotten children's authorsAvenue Books (talk) 18:56, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Accept reason:

I understand what you say as indicating that you will avoid any editing that could be seen as promoting your web site or your business. on the basis of that understanding I am unblocking you to allow a username change to your requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:23, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We are really, honestly, not trying to be unfair; but the links you have posted to Avenue Books are by definition promotional, as is your username. If you achieve a change of username do you agree not to post any further links to this site? (hint - it is a requirement for unblock)--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:49, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will add, if those images are scans of rare or out-of-print books, and would add value to specific articles, consider uploading the pictures to Wikipedia and include them in relevant articles, instead of linking to your site. It is less objectionable to specify your site as the source of an image on the image page itself, rather than linking to your site in a Wikipedia article. ~Amatulić (talk) 00:23, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy to comply with your suggestion.Avenue Books (talk) 06:53, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
