The general syllable structure is (C)V(N), however, the consonant cluster /kw/ is allowed when the next vowel is not /u/. In addition, a glottal stop is required between vowels in certain situations involving consecutive vowels: aa, ae, ee, ei, ie, ii, oo, ou, uu, uo. - A plain glottal stop is marked with a dot above (except for i, where it is marked with a circumflex), while a diaresis above marks a tense glottal stop.
