Superstar, the movie

Disclaimer: This a project for the elective Contemporary Film Industry offered at IIM Ahmedabad.

Superstar is 2013 Indian murder mystery directed by Abbas Mustan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh in the lead roles while Kareena Kapoor is a part of the supporting cast. The film deals with betrayal and how emotions play out in a husband wife relationship. The movie a fast paced thriller dwelling on the exploration of motives. The development of the movie started in 2012 December by a bunch of enthusiastic IIM A students who wanted to make a movie. They were very enthusiastic about the story and managed to convince Shah Rukh Khan and Abbas Mustan to do the film. The movie has been marketed in a very interesting manner.

The movie follows the story of Aryan Kapoor(Shah Rukh Khan), an established star who gets challenged by his director and heads out to prove himself. He lands a movie with an upcoming director Snehil Basoya (Arjun Rampal), whose girlfriend is Sanjana Sen (Chitrangada Singh), the actress of the movie. Aryan and Sanjana bond on the sets which makes Kayna Kapoor (Kareena Kapoor), Aryan's wife jealous. The Assistant director Amol Gandhi observes this and plays a game.

Production
The shooting took place this Jan with a lot of on location shoots in exotic locations. The budget for the movie was 50 crores with 20 cr reportedly being spent on marketing. Also there is speculation about an item number featuring Koena Mitra.
