The sarail hound is a unique breed of dog that very closely resembles the Grey Hound and is found mainly in Sarail upazilla of Brahamanbaria district of Bangladesh.is a Bangladeshi dog breed.
Although there is lack of authentic information about the origin of the breed, but some researchers assume Sarail Hound to be a Fusion of Arabian Hunting dogs, Greyhounds and Wild-dogs. At present the ‘pure Sarail Hound’ is facing a devastating future leading to possible extinction. Therefore, it is very important that dog enthusiasts of Bangladesh recognize this breed as a part of Bangladesh’s heritage and take initiatives to save it from extinction.
Appearance[edit]
These are short thin coat dogs . They are mostly bi-colored brown and white, thin, black and white . They are Beautiful, running, alpha and fast. Naturally they always Cauti, brave and violent from time to time. Lifetime 8-14 years . The need for practice exercise is too high . Hunting instincts are very high. Observation ability is moderate And training ability is moderate. Speed 55 km /
The sarail hound was bred to be the complete hunter and estate guardian and has features that allow it to excel at both.
Temperament[edit]
This dog was Primarily used to hunt wild rabbit, deer indipendant of the handler, the sarail hound is unique in two ways. Firstly it fulfils the functions of a guard dog as well as, secondly the sarail hound can hunt by sight as well as track by scent. While hunting they can be relentless pursuers that are not intimidated by complex terrain or water bodies. After finding their prey, the dogs take it down and bring it back to the handler. If the dog is unable to bring down its prey, it injures and corners the target till the handler can get to it. This dog can hunt alone, in pairs, in a pack, or with its owner.
