The Black Killer or Heisha (Simplified Chinese: 黑煞 or 黑杀; Traditional Chinese: 黑煞 or 黑殺; pinyin: hēishā; Wade-Giles: hei1sha1) is the protector of the Song dynasty. He is said to have first appeared in the Zhongnan Mountains (Zhongnan shan 終南山) during the tenth century when Zhang Shouzhen 張守真 received revelations him. The figure appears frequently in Song dynasty exorcistic texts, particularly those associated with Tianxin Zhengfa 天心正法 (The Orthodox Way of the Celestial Heart) notably the Daofa huiyuan 道法會元 (Corpus of Daoist Ritual).[1]
