Sensory art therapy

Within this article I'd like to add where it is mostly found (regions of the world), different ways it is used in those different regions of the world, and some organizations that provide any type of art therapy.

Some sources for this article are...

This article is missing certain information that I intend to add for example:

  • The most commonly used art therapies in America.
  • The most common age group that uses "art" therapy.
  • History of art therapy
  • And, which mental illnesses/trauma are most commonly treated with art therapies.

Art became an instrument for self-expression and symbolism. However, it was not until the 1940's that the therapeutic use of art was defined and developed into a distinct discipline. This discipline arose in America and Europe. Art therapy helps with mental health and development of the brain. It can help people with a mental illness manage behavior, reduce stress, and develop interpersonal skills. Sensory art therapy focuses on children, since they are naturally more artistic and creative. A young child would more likely be comfortable expressing themselves through art thank through emotions and words. A list of issues that sensory art therapy focuses on are below:

  • learning disabilities
  • cognitive disabilities
  • schizophrenia
  • autism

These are the main disabilities that are focused on through the use of art therapy.
