Josh Brainard, also known as Gnar or #4, is a former guitarist for the band Slipknot. He is one of the original founding members of the group, alongside Shawn Crahan, Paul Gray, Anders Colsefni, and Donnie Steele. When Mick Thomson joined the band, Brainard became the rhythm guitarist, with Mick taking on a lead guitar role. He appears on Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. and the self-titled album. His replacement, Jim Root, appears on one track from Slipknot, "Purity". The reason for Brainard leaving the band is unknown. Brainard is currently a guitarist and back-up vocalist of On a Pale Horse.
