Mukhallad ibn Yazīd ibn al-Muhallab al-Azdi (given name also spelled Makhlad) was the deputy governor of Khurasan under his father Yazid ibn al-Muhallab during the reign of the Umayyad caliph Sulayman (r. 715–717).

Life[edit]

Mukhallad was the son of Yazid ibn al-Muhallab, who succeeded his father al-Muhallab ibn Abi Sufra as deputy governor of Khurasan in 702. Mukhallad served as a commander under his father and conquered Jabal al-Buttam (Zarafshan Range).[1] Yazid was dismissed and imprisoned by al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, the overall governor of Iraq, Khurasan and the eastern Caliphate, in 704 and escaped to Palestine with his family in afterward. There, Yazid entered the patronage of the Caliph's brother Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, who became Caliph in 715. Sulayman appointed Yazid governor of Iraq then added Khurasan to his governorship. Yazid dispatched Mukhallad to arrest the province's de facto governor Waki ibn Abi Sud al-Tamimi.

After the accession of Umar II (r. 717–720). Mukhallad was arrested and imprisoned by al-Jarrah ibn Abdallah al-Hakami.[2]
