Usage[edit]

Template for designing and standardizing Russian-style references to archival sources including materials stored in state, departmental and other archives. Compliant with GOST R 7.0.5—2008[1].

  • Before saving pages, it is recommended to remove from the template all additional parameters whose fields have not been filled in:

Description of parameters[edit]

Required parameters[edit]

  • institution — the name of the state, departmental or other archive (it is useful to familiarize yourself with the list of abbreviations of archives ; for manuscript departments the abbreviation OR is accepted )
  • fond — fund number (if necessary, you can specify the name of the fund). If a fund number is present, the fund name is enclosed in parentheses. If there is no fund number, its name is given without brackets[2];
  • opis — inventory number (if available)
  • delo — case number;
Some archives use the term "storage unit". In such cases, the |delo= field is filled in instead |unit= (see the description of the unit parameter in the next section).

Additional parameters[edit]

  • url — link to the cited source
  • title — title of the document
  • unit — the number of the storage unit (if in a particular archive storage it is customary to use the term "storage unit" instead of "delo")
  • page — sheet number or sheet numbers in the file. If you need to specify a range of sheets, the separator is not a hyphen, but a dash [3];
  • pages — the number of sheets in the file (storage unit)
  • case-title — the name (title) of the case in which the described document is located, or the title of the storage unit. If it is not a separate document that is described, but a complete file, it is usually indicated not the range, but the number of sheets in this file. In this case, the name (title) of the case is entered in the field | remains blank and is removed. The same applies to cases where the entire storage unit is described.[5]
  • box — box or carton number (in some archives)
  • note — see GOST R 7.0.5—2008, paragraph 11.10[6];
  • ref — the name of the reference for linking with {{sfn}}.


Parameters for describing documents from several inventories or files/storage units

Below in parentheses it is indicated with which fields the field of a particular parameter is most often filled in:

  • opis2 (вместе с полями box2=[7], delo2= or unit2=), opis3 (box3=, delo3= or unit3=), … opis6 (box6=, delo6= or unit6=);
  • box2 (delo2= or unit2=), box3 (delo3= or unit3=), … box6 (delo6= or unit6=);
  • delo2 (page2= or pages2=, case-title2=), delo3 (page3= or pages3=, case-title3=), … delo6 (page6= or pages6=, case-title6=);
  • unit2 (page2= or pages2=, case-title2=), unit3 (page3= or pages3=, case-title3=), … unit6 (page6= or pages6=, case-title6=);
  • case-title2, case-title3… case-title6 (see above);
  • pages2, pages3… , pages6 (see above);
  • page2, page3… , page6 (see above);

Usage notes[edit]

  • If an abbreviated name of an archive is used, when accessing its materials for the first time (in an article), you should, if possible, decipher the abbreviation (for example, you can provide an internal link to an article about this archive in the field |institution=). See the List of abbreviations used in Russian history studies [ru]. For documents stored in manuscript departments (OM), the abbreviation of the institution to which the department belongs is given, for example, OR RSL, OR IMLI .
If there is no article about an archival institution, you can use the {{comment}} template to explain it's name:

   When filling out the template form, you should not put periods immediately before vertical bars  |  or ending curly braces  }}  even if spelling rules require it (to avoid the appearance of “double” periods).
Исключение — поля title= и case-title=. Если в конце любого из этих полей стоит сокращение, оканчивающееся точкой (например, г. or ж. д.), этот знак препинания ставится.
