Problems[edit]

This article has got serious problems. As the second Principal and first Senior Tutor of the College, I would like to see it develop into a good article, but I have an obvious conflict of interest. It seems likely that most of the people editing the article also have a conflict of interest as members of the College. The article has no references, even for the founding and opening of the College, although that might be mentioned on the College web site, which is linked from the infobox (not an obvious source for material). The list of JRC officers and College officers are just not encyclopedic. We are not here to promote the College but to give proper sourced information. Start with press reports about the Queen's visit in 1969, and the student protest. There is actually more about this, but not enough, at Fylde College. Note too that the College was founded earlier (1967 if I recall correctly) than when it was opened. Professor Roland Dobbs, Foundation Professor of Physics, was the first Principal and chaired all the meetings that planned the building. I had taken over as Principal by the time it was opened. There needs to be a proper section on the history of the College. Note that Colleges and Halls of Residence can be notable, but many articles on them have been deleted. Lancaster Colleges have more notability than Halls because it is a collegiate university and everybody belongs to a college. Further to this I have just changed the date of establishment to 1967. My source is the grant of arms which states that the Council approved the establishment of the College in 1967 and that it had functioned as such since August 1, 1967. I should have checked that earlier, as I have a copy of it on my wall at home. I also note that the College web site states that the College building was opened by Princess Alexandra as Chancellor, not the Queen as the article says. The Queen's visit is of course notable, as I said a year ago someone needs to look up the press reports and add this history. Motto[edit]

I see that the College motto "Sine Concilio Nihil" is translated as "Nothing Without Purpose". My recollection from the early days was that the English translation was intended to be "Nothing Without Council", it being a pun that the College would not be there without the County Council and that we should take council before deciding matters. I do not know of any record of this however, but it might be in the Syndicate minutes of the time when we decided to seek a grant of arms. I still have a photograph of the grant of arms on my wall as I am mentioned as the Principal requesting it. It says I'm a gentleman. Not everyone has a document to prove it! Governance[edit]

This section has no sources. It is therefore entirely original research. Wikipedia relies on sources. It reports what others have said. It does not report what people "Just know to be right". It seems likely that all edits to this section have been made by people in the College who know that they are right, but this is not good enough. A particular concern is that all the people listed are alive and thus covered by our living persons policy. Lists like this attract vandals to defame the people on the list. What people in the College should be doing is not telling us what they know, but telling us about sources that they know of in the College. --Bduke (Discussion) 20:32, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Opening of the College[edit]

The link (https://scan.lancastersu.co.uk/2014/07/01/a-tale-of-nine-colleges/) clearly says that the Queen did open the College and that is my recollection as Principal of County at that time. However the link is to the student newspaper! I accompanied the Queen from her car into the College when she visited. I think that was to open the College. Could we see a photo of the plaque that was mentioned? I also have a vague memory that there was something wrong with the plaque, but I think it was fixed. Memories are poor after so many years. It is extremely odd that every comment on the talk page is by me. It is not pointing to many people taking an interest in the article. --Bduke (talk) 02:43, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of arms[edit]

Why has the "Coat of arms" been renamed "Logo of The County College"? The Coat of arms was granted officially by what I think is called the Royal College of Arms. It is much more than a logo. I will revert it. Bduke (talk) 23:25, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
