'3-SUB' plus 2-car trailer formations[edit]

Some published sources claim that sometimes one '3-SUB' unit would haul a 2-car trailer set, without a second '3-SUB' behind the trailer set. When arriving at the end of the route, the 3-car unit was said to run around the 2-car set as a steam loco would run around loco-hauled stock.

Did this ever actually happen? It would seem unlikely that a run-round loop would be long enough for a 3-car set, and a run-round manoeuvre would interfere with the intensive traffic of an electrified line, especially if a long distance from one crossover to another would have to be run. Also, I have never seen any photographic or documentary evidence (e.g. working timetables or special traffic notices) for this.

Any ecidence for or aginst would improve this already good article. Barney Bruchstein (talk) 20:06, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Barney Bruchstein: You say "Some published sources claim ..." - which sources would those be? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:22, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
