Merge with Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon[edit]

If I am not mistaken, this technology would fall under devices called Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon. It may be appropriate to merge the two. I need to do some more research however. I realize that mountain locater unit's do not necessarily transmit to satellites--only the sheriff's department can pick up the signal on Mount Hood--but the technology works in a similar way to the simplest MPIRB's. It broadcasts a basic radio signature to be picked up by rescuers. If these articles should not be merged, let me know. Right now, I am not sure. If no merging should take place, the information here needs to be updated to reflect more general information, not just Mount Hood specific. I know for a fact that similar beacon technologies are used elsewhere. They are used all the time by back country skiers where I live (we call them avalanche beacons), and they do not transmit to satellites. Let me know what you other Wikipedians think! According to [1] they are not the same thing, a MPIRB and a MLU because of the satellite signal distinction. So if any of you all out there can help update the info on this article, that'd be great.
