Which Haldane is in the photo?[edit]

Is that John Scott Haldane in the photograph emerging from the pressure vessel in the "Haldane's work" section or his son Jack, known as JBS? Clicking on the photo and the 'Details' button eventually leads to a link about JBS. JezGrove (talk) 22:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's going to depend on if the date of the photograph is accurately stated as 1908. JS Haldane built a decompression chamber in 1907 and was involved in decompression experiments in that decade, so it seems likely to me. We also know that his son was involved in his experiments from an early age. In 1908, JS Haldane would have been 48; his son JBS Haldane would have been 16. So the question then becomes was JBS a really, really old-looking bald 16-year old? My best guess is that the man in the photo is the father. The alternative would place the photograph in the 1930s at the earliest. and I'm not aware of JBS being involved in decompression research at that time or later. Thanks, RexxS. I've now seen it claimed that the photo was taken in 1941. It is used on the front cover of this biography of JBS, and you wouldn't think that the publisher would get the wrong Haldane? JezGrove (talk) 09:42, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
