Extraneous material[edit]

This article contains a lot of material that is not really relevant to the Class 504. I intend to prune it. Possibly some of the material could be re-located to other pages. Biscuittin (talk) 22:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Traction motors[edit]

Sources disagree on the number and horsepower of Class 504's traction motors. Quoted figures are shown in bold:

  • Ian Allan ABC, 2 x 141 hp = 282 hp (210 kW)
  • Platform 5 pocket book, 4 x 90 kW = 360 kW (483 hp)
  • therailwaycentre.com, total 564 hp (421 kW) implies 4 x 141 hp

EMUs of the 1950s usually had about 250 hp per car so I'd expect around 500 hp for a 2-car set. The figure of 282 hp looks far too low but either of the others looks possible. Biscuittin (talk) 08:13, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Leigh" proposal[edit]

This statement seems extraordinarily tenuous and has no references cited. On what basis does the article state that MPs called for the Class 504s to be used to reinstate a rail service to Leigh? Jp4712 (talk) 16:00, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pure original research as far as I can tell. Googling gives nothing to verify and the page Leigh (Greater Manchester) railway station doesn't mention it. I've removed it. Alzarian16 (talk) 16:43, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Numbering, carriage descriptions[edit]

Some points which need clarification... Mirokado (talk) 16:05, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Can someone add a suitable description of "Motor Open Brake Second" and "Driving Trailer Composite (later Driving Trailer Second)" please? I didn't understand what "open" or "brake" here meant, for example, until I looked at the article Driving Brake Standard Open which refers to roughly the same sort of carriage. And what is a "driving trailer"? Sounds like a contradiction in terms.
  • "Additionally Driving Trailer 77164 was transferred in 1970 to the Tilbury lines of Eastern Region to replace car 75292, which had been written off in an accident, in 302244. Its running mate 65443 was thereafter a spare car at Bury depot." Can someone please add a clarification of 302244 and similar numbers?
I have added a link to British Rail coach designations. Biscuittin (talk) 19:19, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
