Stone, Great Wyrley and Penkridge is a proposed constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament.[1] Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it will first be contested at the next general election.[2]
Boundaries[edit]
The constituency will be composed of the following wards (as they existed on 1 December 2020):
- The District of South Staffordshire wards of Brewood and Coven; Cheslyn Hay North and Saredon; Cheslyn Hay South; Essington; Featherstone and Shareshill; Great Wyrley Landywood; Great Wyrley Town; Huntington and Hatherton; Penkridge North East and Acton Trussell; Penkridge South East; Penkridge West; Wheaton Aston, Bishopswood and Lapley.
- The Borough of Stafford wards of Haywood & Hixon; Milford; Milwich; St. Michael’s & Stonefield; Walton.[3]
It will comprise the three eponymous communities interspersed largely with rural areas:[4]
- Stone is currently in the, to be abolished, constituency of Stone
- Great Wyrley, along with adjoining built up areas such as Cheslyn Hay, is part of the current constituency of South Staffordshire, which is to be reconfigured and renamed Kingswinford and South Staffordshire
- Penkridge will be transferred from Stafford
Following a local government boundary review in South Staffordshire which came into effect in May 2023,[5][6] the constituency will now comprise the following from the next general election:
- The District of South Staffordshire wards of Brewood, Coven & Blymhill; Cheslyn Hay Village; Essington; Featherstone, Shareshill & Saredon; Great Wyrley Landywood; Great Wyrley Town; Huntington & Hatherton; Lapley, Stretton & Wheaton Aston; Penkridge North & Acton Trussell; Penkridge South & Gailey.
- The Borough of Stafford wards of Haywood & Hixon; Milford; Milwich; St. Michael’s & Stonefield; Walton.[4]
History[edit]
Following the announcement that Sir Bill Cash, the MP for Stone, would not be standing at the next general election, Sir Gavin Williamson, the current MP for South Staffordshire, was chosen as the Conservative candidate for this seat in July 2023.[7]
