Xinghai Bay Cross-sea Bridge, also known as Dalian Southern Binhai Avenue Cross-sea Bridge, referred to as Xinghai Bay Bridge, is located in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, China. It is China's first ground-anchored suspension bridge built at sea and the first double-decker steel highway in China. Truss suspension bridge. Construction of the bridge began in 2011 and was opened on October 30, 2015. The Xinghai Bay Bridge has a total length of 6.8 kilometers; of which, the main bridge is 820 meters long and has a clearance height of 30 meters. The center is facing the central axis of Xinghai Square. The Xinghai Bay Bridge directly connects the Dalian High-tech Zone in the west of Dalian and the Jinshatan and Fujiazhuang areas in the east, allowing commuters living in the southwest of the city to directly cross the sea to the eastern areas of the city such as Qingniwa Bridge without going through Heishi Congested areas such as Jiaojiao and Xinghai Square have played an important role in alleviating east-west traffic congestion.
As Dalian's economy develops, the urban area continues to extend outwards, and traffic problems have become increasingly serious. Dalian is dominated by hills and mountains, with limited developable land and insufficient road connectivity. Dalian's road network has long been lacking planning, causing a large amount of traffic to concentrate on a few roads, lacking diversion routes, causing congestion. Traffic flow on the east and west sides of the city is concentrated on Zhongshan Road. In order to solve the traffic diversion problem, Dalian City started building the Dalian Metro in 2009. On the other hand, it tried to solve the east-west traffic problem by building a cross-sea bridge and a mountain tunnel.
The Xinghai Bay Cross-sea Bridge is part of the Dalian Southern Binhai Avenue project. Construction officially started on October 10, 2011, and was completed on January 5, 2015. The bridge connects the Dalian High-tech Industrial Park in the west, crosses the Xinghai Bay in southern Dalian to the east, and then diverges after landing at Jinshatan Beach. One bridge passes through the mountainous area of Dalian Forest Zoo through the Lianhuashan Tunnel, and connects to many main roads in the city center to the north; the other Then it intersects with Binhai Road and continues along Binhai Road Scenic Area. The bridge was designed by Dalian University of Technology and jointly constructed by China Communications Construction Company First and Second Navigation Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. and China Railway 19th Bureau Group.
The bridge is a double-layer design, with four lanes of traffic on both upper and lower floors. The driving direction of vehicles on the upper bridge is from east to west, and the driving direction of vehicles on the lower bridge is from west to east. The speed limit is 60 kilometers/hour. At the same time, pedestrian trails are designed on the bridge to facilitate tourists' viewing. The Xinghai Bay Cross-Sea Bridge uses a number of new technologies. For example, the road is paved with epoxy asphalt, which is stronger and more durable than ordinary asphalt. The bridge is equipped with a health detection system to ensure timely maintenance of the bridge. The Xinghai Bay Bridge is also the first bridge in the world to use riprap lifting caisson foundation construction; among them, the caissons used in the construction weigh 26,000 tons each, making them the largest caissons in China. At the same time, because the bridge crosses multiple scenic spots, the designer also specially designed the shape and direction of the bridge to make the bridge as consistent as possible with the landscape of the entire area.
According to analysis by local media in Dalian, the Xinghai Bay Cross-sea Bridge is an important livelihood project, carrying more than 30,000 vehicles every day, effectively relieving congestion on various main roads and shortening commuting time in eastern and western urban areas of Dalian. The Xinghai Bay Cross-sea Bridge has also become a popular tourist attraction, attracting many tourists to enjoy the scenery on the bridge, but it has also caused problems such as illegal parking, posing traffic safety risks. The completion of the bridge also stimulated the surrounding real estate market, causing the housing prices of some properties to rise significantly.
Some people question that the Xinghai Bay Bridge will pollute the surrounding waters, block nearby water flows, and affect marine ecology. In this regard, the construction department stated that it will control the construction and maintenance of bridges to reduce harm to the marine environment.
