Sriram Emani is an Indian American actor, writer, and entrepreneur. He is known for his role as John in the movie Chosen Family, and for his role as Bob Cratchit in Hanover Theatre's stage production of A Christmas Carol.[1][2].

Early Life and Education[edit]

Emani grew up in Mumbai. As a child, he trained for over 12 years in South Indian classical vocal music (Carnatic)[3]. He then attended the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, for undergraduate studies[3]. Following his graduation, he worked as a management consultant in New Delhi and New York[4]. He has said that his decision to pursue a career in the performing arts came about after he saw a performance of Phantom of the Opera[5].

Following his decision to change his career, he joined the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai[4]. After that, he attended the MIT Sloan School of Management to complete his MBA[5]. It is at MIT that Emani founded IndianRaga[3].

At MIT, encouraged by his professor at the Media Lab, Emani founded IndianRaga. The organization has produced works like the Shape of You Carnatic Mix and other viral works[5][6]. Over the years, Emani has grown IndianRaga into a larger operation operating in as many as forty cities globally[7]. Despite this the company remains small, boasting on

Acting[edit]

Emani has been involved in the performing arts since he was a child. Recently, he has been focusing on acting. He landed the role of Bob Cratchit in Hanover Theatre's stage production of A Christmas Carol after acting in a short film that included Annie Kerins in the cast[1][2]. In 2024, he is John, a talent agent, in Chosen Family directed by Heather Graham.

Novel[edit]

Emani has published one novel Contagious Love cowritten with Aishvarya Murali. Contagious Love was published in 2023 by Rupa Publications[8].
