Skeduz is a Breton folk group founded in 1994, during the fest noz revival started by the group Ar Re Yaouank.

Biography[edit]

The group was founded in Melrand, in the department of Morbihan, in 1994 by Yvon Lefebvre, Nicolas Quemener, Laurent Dacquay, Dédé Thomas and Ronan Pellen. The name Skeduz (from skedus, meaning "brilliant" in Breton) is in homage to the Breton folk group Glazar Skeduz founded by Dédé Thomas[1], Job Fulup and Gérard Lavigne, in the 1970s[2].

In the first seven years after being founded, Skeduz played around 70 concerts/fest-noz a year, and recorded two albums, Rag Ar Plinn and Couleur/Livioù, in 1997 and 1999 respectively. In 2001 the band decided to take a hiatus, but the group came together again in 2006, this time only performing a few times a year[2]. At this time, Erwan Hamon and Pierre Droual joined as the sixth and seventh members.

Mixing traditional compositions and themes, the band were inspired by Irish music, and by other groups such as Skolvan, notably in their arrangements for binioù, bombarde and strings.
