Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- Long and short scale (currently a redirect to Long and short scales) → Long and short scales (move · discuss) – grammar: long scale and short scale are two different scales, not a single scale named "long and short". D.Lazard (talk) 16:10, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Looks like this was suggested way back in 2005 too: Talk:Long_and_short_scale/Archive_1#Long_scale_vs._short_scale?. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:14, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, but it has been moved in june 2021 by a sockpuppet. Otherwise, I could do the move myself. D.Lazard (talk) 16:24, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- I hadn't noticed that (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Long_and_short_scales&oldid=1031111543), normally if someone else has moved it I'd say it's not uncontroversial, but not sure if that still applies to a banned editor, so will leave to someone else. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:34, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

- Elie Golf Club (currently a redirect to The Golf House Club) → The Golf House Club, Elie (currently a redirect instead to The Golf House Club) (move · discuss) – "Wrong name for title contents; adding clarity to articles" Golfer222 (talk) 14:35, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Golfer222, Is this the name common name as per WP:NAMECHANGES? Especially as it's less WP:CONCISE. -Kj cheetham (talk) 14:37, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University (currently a redirect to Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya) → Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (move · discuss) – Name changed at official website i.e. http://bhatkhandemusic.edu.in/ , it happens after government of Uttar Pradesh has upgraded this Deemed to be University into a state university by an act passed by Vidhansabha. The new name is "Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya" as you can see here https://upvidhai.gov.in/MediaGallery/Act2of2022.pdf and here https://upvidhai.gov.in/act.aspx 2409:4065:E8D:3B67:22E0:D170:C6C7:2C1D (talk) 07:18, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

- It is another case. It was an institute (with some powers of a university, so it has Deemed University (short of Deemed to be University) in its name. But now it is upgraded into a full University with a new name with all powers of any University with additional powers of affiliating colleges. So, it is change in characteristic of the institute, so it needs name change. Also, Vishwavidyalaya means University, which is a name given by English act of the university (see PDF refrence) and used as a common name by many Wikipedia pages including Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya and Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya etc.2409:4065:1:FD20:3AB8:5297:135B:5C6F (talk)

- Ālī Qāpū (currently a redirect to Ali Qapu) → Ali Qapu (move · discuss) – Per WP:COMMONNAME; English language sources don't use the diacritics in this case. Example from UNESCO's website: "The pavilion of Ali Qapu on the west side forms the monumental entrance to the palatial zone and to the royal gardens which extend behind it." This argument can be further supported by WP:TITLECON; Ali Qapu Gate, Qazvin, and Ali Qapu, Ardabil are two examples where the very same name has been transliterated without the diacritics. It seems that the diacritics were added to distinguish it from the disambiguation page Ali Qapu, which I suggest be moved to Ali Qapu (disambiguation) (as it's already a redirect to that page). Keivan.fTalk 08:26, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Keivan.f, this requests involves two claims: 1) that the form without diacritics is more common in English, and 2) that the palace in Isahan is the primary topic for the term "Ali Qapu". From a few quick checks, I can see that both are very plausible, but given what's involved I believe it's better to err on the side of caution and do that through a full RM dicussion. Would you mind if I convert your request into an RM? – Uanfala (talk) 19:44, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- Uanfala, as you can tell I cannot determine on my own whether it's the primary topic or not. The point that I was making was that the districts should go, but that would not be possible without dealing with the disambiguation page first. So I guess I agree with you that the right course of action would be to have an RM to determine the primary topic and then we can talk about transliteration issues.
