English: Calico aster (Symphyotrichum lateriflorum), Aster family (Asteraceae). - Red Butte Garden, Salt Lake City, Utah.
"This is an eastern species, quite popular on the plant ID forum these days. Two striking features: the flowers are very small, just about half inch across at the beginning and slowly growing to about one inch; and the disk flowers are unproportionally large and flared. There is just one other species with such disk flowers, rare Symphyotrichum ontarionis." - Andrey Zharkikh
