Summary

Description
English: Mayflower Memorial This is the top of the Mayflower Memorial, framed against the turning leaves of a sycamore tree. The monument is about 50 feet high. It was erected to commemorate the departure of the Pilgrim Fathers in the Mayflower and the Speedwell from Southampton in 1620. Although the ships later docked at Plymouth, and the Mayflower continued to the New England alone, it was from Southampton that the voyage started. The monument contains commemoration plaques from many American families of the Mayflower's passengers, many of whom became prominent in the setting up of the United States of America.
